Just got my hands on a beautiful 7.26x45 VZ52. Mostly matching serials, but a perfect barrel/bore and stock. looks like it was never fired (I know that it probably was). Anyway I've been finger-fucking this beauty for a few hours now, sooooo....

Also seems like it won't fucking work. The piston for the short stroke of the 52 fits around the barrel and needs a close fit. You would have to make a shank somehow to go under the piston, and that's not even getting into what needs to change about the trunnion area.

apparently conversions exist, and have been done. but it would probably be cheaper/ less fucktarded to just buy a 52/57

Conversions require a collar attached to the chamber in some way. Then, you're hoping your bore is still clear and that the collar wont fly off with a case as you're shooting. It's always a better choice to find a 52/57, even though you'll pay a good bit more for one.

when the factory retrofitted the 52's, they essentially shortened the breech end of the barrel by 6mm and re-chambered slightly. but I'm not sure your average gunsmith could do that outside of a czech factory

I had to buy the dies and make my own. Thankfully I got them, 200rd and a batch of reformed 220swift brass for $200.

Just saw a vz52 rifle in a local pawn shop. I think it is a x45 variant too.
crown and rifling took good and everything else appears in good shape.
what should I try to pay for it?
I don't have a reloading set up either. so it would just be a safe queen until I can move someplace where I can set up a bench.

I own one. They're ok pistols. Like shooting a TT or a really hot .40sw.
You will have to replace the firing pin and rollers with new made though. surplus ammo and mags are available and reasonably priced.
only downside is that the pistol weights two pounds.which makes any sort of carry difficult. as it will want to pull down your pants.
