What's /k/'s favorite innawoods knife?

I picked up an ESEE 6 a few weeks ago and I finally got a chance to use it. Other than a few fine cuts for tenderloins and the back strap, it wasn't too much knife to clean a deer.

I also value the ability to baton fire wood, as rarely as I may need to. It's nice to have the option.

I don't carry one knife innawoods. Depending on what's needed, I'll pick one from the following selection:

-Mora for fine work
-BK2 for heavy work
-heavy duty russkie folder for backup (and it's portable enough to throw in a pocket)

Back in the 1980s, a journalist asked Tom Brown jr, if he had to survive in the wild and he could only have one knife, what would it be. As a result, Brown designed the famous (or infamous) wilderness survival knife, a.k.a. the Tom Brown Tracker.

If I could only have one knife, that would not be the tracker.
If I could only have one knife it would be this thing, LTWK Next Gen. Basically a scalled down version of the Genesis, with a 3'' blade, full flat grind, and a superb handle that is very comfortable in every position I can imagine - saber, hammer, pinch (both guiding the tip and not), and reverse of all three (for chest pulls, cutting from below, etc.).

It does everything (except chopping, and heavy batoning, obviously) - edc, bushcraft, it will get shavings/strike a ferro rod (ltwk spines are legendary).

to be fair, it is a bit of a glorified Izula 2. Similar size, also has a nice, full handle. The next gen is just more comfortable for me.

Condor mini bushlore is another option here, though the handle is just an inch too short to be as good.

Honestly - in the 60-80 dollar range you can find a number of really nice blades. 120-200 dollars is premium stuff, pushing the envelope, and all that marketing jazz (not to say it isn't worth it), and above that is just paying extra for jewelery.

Really, the biggest deal with LTWK for me, is that when you think about things like TOPS BAJA 4.5, B.O.B., or HOG, with their $180 price tag, and then realise you could buy a genesis for $170, there's just no contest.

really? Are you even trying? So the only "valid" thing to do is buy a $400 piece of pocket jewelery?

Not to mention the fundamental stupidity of comparing LTWK, HI, and even solid mid-tier knives like tops/esee/BM/ZT to a cheap burger.

Most of my knives were purchased because I wanted that one, specifically (looking at you, tbt), sometimes with extra costs because EU (so my $185 HI became a $255 order because shipping costs).

Yeah, I could buy fewer, more expensive knives, but, frankly, I see no point. You get dimiishing returns in terms of quality once you go above $150, and there isn't a single CRK design that would even pique my interest, if that's what you're getting at.

>Ancient luxobarge above me.
>Owner has brought it in for its first fucking bushing change, decades after it was due.
>Convince him to go with solid bushings because: He'll never have to replace them again and they're WAY fucking easier to put in.
>Hacking away at this ancient rubber that has fused with everything around it.
>Using Oxy-Axetylene torch.
>Giant boiler-maker hammer.
>And a supposedly solid fixed blade knife.
>Start hacking away at a bushing about halfway along the chassis.
>Torquing the blade a little - pretty much what you'd do to split some wood with your average $40 survival knife.
>Blade SHATTERS at the leverage point.
>Knuckles slam into underbody of car (I know, first rule of working on cars, keep your hands open).
>Top of blade pings back and slices the back of my opposite hand.
>Lucky it didn't go deep.
>Super glue the cunt shut and now I have the faintest scar on my left hand between my thumb and forefinger.

I only respond to the sebongomeme with "learn quality". If you were under the impression that I consider everything "not ltwk" to be inferior, then that's miscommunication. LT is hardly the only quality knifemaker.

That said - LT Wright does make great quality knives - with sharp 90 degree spines (if you care about striking ferro rods) and very good heat treat.

On the other hand - Rowen (which makes knives for ESEE now) also turns out good quality knives, and they're not the only one.

>you literally can't legally carry a real knife

You fucking retard, EU is not a country.
In Poland I can legally carry a two-handed sword on my back if I fucking want to, and cops can't do shit to me, as long as the blade is covered so I don't accidentally hurt people.
And I'm not making it up, I have friends who are in medieval knighthood clan, they sometimes carry their swords to training on their backs.

I know and have used 3 separate, and completely different, methods of skinning and butchering a deer. I used that one so I could hand it and take my time caping the entire deer.

>chopping the deer's head off before you butcher

wtf are you on about any way? I've never seen that done. I only even cut this one off for the purpose of mounting it.
