Can somebody explain this shit? Most of the Soviet army was apparently equipped to fight this way as late as 1986, the units in Afghanistan had slightly more practical uniforms but they were the exception. I mean it looks nice, but I can scarcely think of a more impractical or (even for the period) obsolete battledress. What the actual fuck?

Ultimately unnecessary, anything of practical significance is tucked away in pouches or your rucksack, where it is easy to access and will not get lost.
The main flaw of Soviet battledress is the Y-strap/belt complex, it is designed in a way that allows the belt pouches to slide around and are annoying as fuck. Comfort in general took a backseat in Soviet equipment design.

Kinda stupid not going for uniformity, also the camos the soviets had were never standardized (still aren't, surpat clashing with newer ones)

Also stupid, unlike normal boots these don't give much more ankle support and would be very iffy in different environments. Dated design overall, good for thick socks though (note the russians didn't start issuing socks till 2013)

Really think more pockets would be better honestly, yeah you can use pouches on the web gear but the web gear itself doesn't facilitate that very well compared to US and British systems.
