Alright /k/, I've got $900 and I want to ask y'all about what I should buy next. I've been eye balling a Argentine Mauser 1909 for $650 ($720) after taxes. It's numbers matching, shiny bore, stock and finish is perfect. Thing is though, I don't really have a "fighting rifle". All I own is milsurp. This is the first time i'm going to spend more than $600 on any firearm. So any advice is appreciated. Any 1909 owners? Pic related.

Get an AK.
You're probably no excellent marksmen and that magazine capacity is just gay.
Good for hunting , if thats all you ever plan to do.

Guy is throwing in some 7.65 dies and brass. I may just start reloading for 8mm, 7.65, and 54r if I buy the 1909

I'm an okay shooter. The range I shoot at is 200m. What's a good ak? No I'm not trying to get the c39 or an arsenal.

Orrrr you could get a nugget and reload for that anyway?

I've got a nugget already though. She's got a good bore as well. Numbers matching.

Strongly consider a Tikka T3.
You should be able to find a Compact Tactical for that price. That version address some complaints people have over the base model. It has a steel 10 round magazine, nice stock, and a heavier barrel which is nice if you want to buy it a larger caliber.

Mine is in .308 and I paid ~$950. Extremely smooth action, nice accuracy, overall a nice rifle. Some people don't like the stock material, but I have no issues with mine.
You could also buy a base model with a stainless barrel for hundreds less and buy some ammo with the extra money.

I imagine my local dick's has one. Thing is though, I only shoot at 200 meters, does that justify such a rig?
>>
>>28021462
The Tactical version, which is $1450 comes with a scope and some other goodies can shoot 800m pretty well with an appropiate round. A local big box store will not have anything above a few base models, which are still fantastic rifles without the bells and whistles of the more expensive ones.

But if you never plan on shooting over 200m, you would probally have a better time with an AR-15 than a bolt action long rifle.

Working on a lower at the moment, just wanted a rifle to fill the gap until I'm done with it. Something completed. Finished. Someone else suggested an ak, but I guess I should have titled this thread, convince me why I shouldn't get milsurp.

Could always build a good AR for $900. Less really.

I'm not a big milsurp guy but an m1 carbine would be neat
>>

Finish your AR anon. Then you wont have one functioning rifle that is semi difficult to find ammo for and an unshootable brick of aluminum
>>
>>28021633
If you already have a nugget, are building an AR, I wouldn't buy something in the mean time. Spend the money on optics for the AR build.
If it were me I would buy a T3 Compact Tactial, and then latter add optics to it. However, I enjoy long range shooting and hunting.
Idk man, maybe buy a shotgun or a Thompson if one can be had for that price. Or make an auto AK, then you can mag dump in the woods while screaming

$650 is kind of high for a 1909 Argentinian. Unless you're talking about a carbine. I bought my 2 1909 full length Argentinians for around $450 each. My 1909 carbine cost more than $650, though, I want to say around $800.

Pic is from one of my full length 1909's. I don't have any pics of my 1909 carbine.
