On the subject of knives, What is the best knife for slicing game's throat when out hunting ?
I had my eyes on a butcher knife. I would use this for the above mentioned throat slicing and also some wood working.

Get a 10in old hickory butcher knife, make a leather sheath or just craft one out of duct tape and cardboard. The carbon steel they use Is sharp as all hell, you'll cut through Bambi's throat like a hot knife through butter.

I do it after they're dead to bleed them out and cut the wind-pipe. But I'm not sure it's any more violent then cutting from the other direction.

It's also very efficient. They'll bleed out as quick as you can cutting their throat. You want to make sure you cut both of the carotid arteries in the neck kill them the quickest. Cutting the windpipe Is just an extra precaution.

I got one and like it. I've found it to be excellent for breaking down game and separating meat and sinew from bones. Also tough enough for camping chores too.
