Looking for a budget 1911, just for the collection to say I have one. Looking for

>Reliable operation, in case I want to use it for steel challenge
>Under $600, I want to add a 1911 to the collection, not swith to the church of Browning
>No fucking GI sights
>I'm going to do a little polishing on it no matter what, so the trigger can be meh
>As long as the finish doesn't rust in the box I don't care blued/parkerized/stainless

Anything out there that meets these criteria?

Also, 1911 general.
>>
Rock Island tac or Springfield mil spec is in your price range. Both are fantastic budget 1911s. You're welcome
>>
>>27961455
No, now enjoy your slew of awful near-future bullshit.
>>
>>27961390
I have heard miles of shit talking on the RIA GI, is the tac immune to the same issues? Friends GI model safety got stuck and had to be sent to the factory
>>
SR1911. It can be had in that price range, but you'll have to hunt around for a deal locally you can have one in that range. I paid about 600 on the dot out the door for mine.

Citadel 1911. Its an armscor manufacture, has speed trigger, extended beaver tail, speed hammer, beveled and lowered ejection port with the internal extractor, ambi extended safety, and Novak style sights. Just replace the grips and buy new magazines since their mags are cheap Springfield 8rd imitations. Msrp is $550, I got mine for $450.

Pic related, mine after I added kimber black and silver grips and swapped out the magazine for a kimber 8 rd
>>
>>27961481
I have one and it hasn't given me any issues.
>>
>>27961666
I don't know shit about the CZ. I just found out about it a few days ago surfing gunbroker.
>>
>>27961776
>>27961626
If it is anything like a Dan Wesson (owned by CZ now) it would be a fine 1911
>>
>>27961354
>durrr i want a 600 dollar, reliable, 1911

kek, good luck with that faggot
>>

Hickok45 here

Guess what? It's 1911 day here at the compound. -bang- -bang- -bang- -bang- Hyu hyu ahhh.. -ping- -ping- -pong- hyu hyu ohhhh.... Always a good day when you've got a 1911

Tisas of course a major manufacturer over there in turkey. And we're glad to be able to try it out.

Lets see if it'll take out this 2 liter here...
>>
>>27961846

I'm just saying, if you're going to buy a cheap shit 1911, you might as well get the cheapest
>>
>>27961725
That looks like what I'm shopping for, thanks!

So an RIA tactical or a citadel are the current front runners, maybe a CZ or Ruger if I find a good deal.

>>27961760
Thanks for the info, I was kinda wary after seeing the shit wrong with the GI models.

>>27961776
Well thanks for bringing it to my attention.
>>
>>27961840
>>27961821
And then there's these guys.

Check out metro arms, considered the best of the Philippine 1911 companies. Metro even offers a fully chromed model. Rock island for
variety.
>>
>>27961876
Hey if you're going to spend money on a fucking 1911 get a decent one, if you don't want to spend that much money just get something else in .45 then homosexual man who likes babies and has no moneys
>>
>>27961880
Huh, those do look pretty good, lots of > $500 deals for used ones too.
>>
>>27961898
This is why 1911's are shit guns.

>If it costs less than $900 it's a jam factory
>Has to be gone over by a gunsmith that specializes in them because even the high end examples are not 100% reliable
>The only reason anyone thinks revolvers are more reliable is because they were originally being compared to 1911's
>Parts replacements have to be hand fitted to the gun because it's such a fucking retarded design

It's the M1a of pistols.
>>
Any black friday deals on 1911s?

You're about to get your shit pushed in bro, not a single thing you said is true.

>has to be $900
The higher end models are actually the problem with the 1911 world, not the solution like everyone claims them to be. Mindless parrot bullshit.

>has to be gone over by a gunsmith
>has to be hand fitted
Again, this is not true of all 1911s, only the "high end" ones, which for some reason people think are more reliable. They are actually unreliable because they deviate so much from the original design. It's like those people you see who change out literally every component on their Glocks: trigger springs, recoil spring weights, guide rods, match barrels, compensators, frame mods, optics... have you ever seen shit like that run reliably? When you start fucking around with the original design you get problems. That's true of any and all firearms. If you have a thumb safety made by Wilson and a Caspian frame and an EGW slide stop and a Colt frame, yeah that's 4 different manufacturers who manufacture to different specs. Gonna have to force those parts to fit if you want them in your gun.

People just got so obsessed with having a tight fit and making super accurate guns that they forgot about reliability.

I'm not even gonna touch the revolver thing. What even the fuck
>>
Taurus PT1911 is a decent gun. I've worked on several for customers.
>>
>>27962730
There's always looking for them at the gunshops.
>>
>>27962769
Really? Because all the ones I've seen are garbage, a friend of mine brought me his and the firing pin seized up in the firing pin channel, there were tool marks all over the interior of the slide too, and the fucker really didn't want to come apart. A good 1911 can come apart with a pencil, this fucker did not want to.

They're garbage, no surprise that the Brazilians made them

OP I just picked up this Springfield armory loaded 1911 for $720 from buds gunshop. Aimsurplus also has them for about the same price . I wouldn't go any lower on quality than this
>>
>>27961725
I have one of these. It's fucking great. It will eat anything you put through it and feeds JHP with no problems (so far). Got mine (slightly) used for around $425. I cannot recommend Citadel enough. It even feeds from promags without issue. It's not super accurate or anything, but it is plenty to get the job done. Honestly, it really ended up being exactly what I wanted in a pistol.
>>
>>27963308
I think I'm going to go with one of these if I can't find a Springfield for less than $650

Thanks for the help everyone!
>>
>>27961666
I like mine quite a bit. I wanted a decent 1911 for the collection, didn't need to have historical value or be an operator approved custom, just decently made, have some cool parts, and reliably chuck 45acp down range. Being from a good company was a plus. It nails every aspect of that for me.
>>
>>27961354
I'm willing to back up a RIA. Purchased one about a couple years ago. Couldn't feed ashtray HP's in it (unless you're willing to pay a gunsmith to shave the feedramp), but it ate hardball reliably well.

Can't say anything about Citadel. Only heard they're decent by word of mouth. I have never personally tried one.
>>
>>27963414
Feed ramp work is really entry level home gunsmithing if you want to learn.
>>
Filipino guns are gross. You should just buy an Auto Ordnance, OP. They can be had for $500 or less. Just buy some decent replacement sights and get a staking tool for the front.
>>
>>27963424
Do you ever need to do that on a new manufacture gun?
>>
>>27961354
Does anyone know what model of 1911 that is in OP's pic? It's gorgeous
>>
>>27963308
The best tested accuracy I found for it was 2-3" on a rest from 25m. That's not bad for a budget 1911. Also what jhp's have you fed yours? Mine doesn't have issues with the 185gr rounded semi jacketed HP ammo I've fed it, but I've yet to venture further into HP ammo from there.
>>
>>27966753
I primary use some cheap ones made by PPU (branded as Monarch at Academy). They are 180gr. I think, I'm at college so I can't check the box right now. The nose on them is exposed lead for about 3mm down, and is almost round aside from a flat bit around the hole. It also feeds Winchester JHP without incident. I haven't tried anything with an odd shape to it like Hornady critical defense. At this point, I think it's safe to say that so long as it is somewhat round, it will feed it.

>1911

nigger, you're going to have to sink at least $4000 into it for gunsmithing work to make it good.
>>
>>27967549
This

>1911
>budget: 600 dollarydoos
HERE WE GO AGAAAAIN

There is no cheap,reliable 1911
>>
>>27963424
And if done incorrectly, will trash a barrel and/or frame.

In the 'smith business we say 'there's no problem that can't be made worse with a Dremel'.

I only charge $40 to throat and ramp a barrel. One guy brought me his home dremelled ramp job on a Kimber Custom and I ended up having to mill the feed ramp out of the frame and fit a Clark-type ramped barrel from a Para.

If you want to learn, that's awesome. But go slow and only Polish - don't attack it planning to remove metal.
>>
>>27962766
How /k/ determines reliability
2 in 10,000 rounds will be misfires

>2 in 10,000???!!! LOL WAT A JAM FACTORY, MUH GLAWK ONLY HAS 1 IN 10,000.
>NOT BUYING CHEAP SLAVSHIT IN A SPECIAL SNOWFLAKE CALIBER
>ITS NOT THE $2,000 GOLD INLAYED IVORY HANDLED MODEL LUBRICATED WITH VIRGINAL HIMALYAN NUN'S TEARS? OBVIOUSLY SHIT.

Just cuz /k/ is a gun board doesnt mean there arent people who talk shit based off of infantile opinions like "this one costs more so it must be better" or "this one is .5% less likley to jam, so obviously yours is shit."

I gotta agree on the "high end" thing too. Just cuz you spent 1,200 on various components doesnt change the fact that its essentially just a kit gun and going to have the same issues any other kit gun will.
