Can someone explain to me what the difference is with a pistol grip and a normal grip for AK47s? What different types of grips are there?
I'm talking to a potential seller about purchasing an AK47 but I was told that it does not have a pistol grip... I just assumed all AKs for the most part have the same grip? Thanks in advance

Yes, furniture is interchangable. You just have to make sure your platform can support it.for example I'm pretty sure the gun in your op is an o-pap. That's built on a different receiver than an akm. Find out what you're getting exactly and go from there.

What you've pictured is a thumbhole stock. These sometimes come as furniture with certain imported guns, or are added in places where it is illegal to have a pistol gripped rifle (a thumbhole is legall different).
It uses the same trunnions and screws as a normal setup, all you would need to do is unscrew it and replace with a standard grip and stock set.

Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking about buying a Hungarian SA85m post-ban model which does have the thumbhole stock. As far as I know I would be able to swap out the stock with a standard stock along with a pistol grip. It's pretty pricey... seller is asking $1400 which is way too much but they said they would let it go for $1250. No magazines or ammo, just the gun. I've shot the pre ban model and I absolutely love the SA85M but I know next to nothing about the AK platform.
Any tips you can give me on what to look for before I pull the trigger? Anything I should ask specifically? I confirmed that it has the standard gas tube.
