The answer is...possibly. You will definitely have some permanent hearing damage, but to what extent depends on a variety of factors. The damage may not be noticeable, or it may be noticeable and permanent for the rest of your life. Electronic hearing protection is an option, some people keep it by their HD gun. A suppressor is another option that could definitely help.

There was a dude that kept 2 spare 17 round mags on him when he carried, and the court ruled that he intended to harm someone, because no person would need that much ammo on them purely for self defense.
If you have access to a suppressor and sbr, that changes things.
The ideal home defense gun probably is a suppressed sbr, 10.5" barrel ar-15loaded with m193.
For those of us who don't have such access or funds, the gun in the op, with a light is the best home defense gun.

Not him, but here's one example of a group of intruders. Even if it's unlikely, firefights are dynamic as fuck. The best case scenario, if it came to shooting, would be getting the first shots on the intruder and having them go down without having to shoot them more than 5 times. Sometimes they'll shoot back while you're shooting them, which means you'll try to pump them full of all the lead you have in your fight-or-flight state.
That almost never happens though. People will be moving. Fast. And they might be returning fire, and that means you should be moving to cover while attempting to suppress. 15-17 rounds go very fast when there's someone returning fire and your body is telling you to squeeze dat fukken trigger. Especially if they get the drop on you instead. Point shooting is very effective in home defense ranges, and it's likely you're going to be shooting in their direction like you forgot there's only a limited number of shots.
