Complete gun noob. Found this in my father's attic. With my extremly limited knowledge I can assume this is a rifle from ww2 era. Anyone able to tell me more about it?

Look on the metal ring under the bolt handle for the manufacturer's rollmark.

Its a SMLE No1 Mk III.
Given the countries where these are common tend to have fairly onerous gun regulations you may want to check your local laws.
Or if you are in a freeish country like the USA disregard.
