My new 5.56 ar has 5/8x24 threading???

- Reading: My new 5.56 ar has 5/8x24 threading???
1/2" x 28 is standard for .223/5.56 correct? And 5/8" x 24 is for .30 cal right?
Well somehow this 5.56 is 5/8 x 24. I tried putting a new comp./ brake, but sure enough, the threads are not 1/2". Now I guess I'm limited to .308 style brakes, and sadly they won't be as efficient right? Will this cause any issues? I wanted this gun to kick as little as possible. Are there any benefits to having this odd ball threaded muzzle? Should I just get a Warden/ Forward style comp? Or just cap it with a protector?
Such a simple thing, I don't know how I missed the details...

I have not shot it, or chambered it, but the barrel has the lil quarter inch lookin hole. Def. not a .30 cal.

It's freaky, I know, I called and asked the manufacturer if it was a mistake. They said no, and that is makes the end of the barrel stronger.

got you. gas port position would also be another indicator.
anyway, i guess shit like this happens but thats weird. theres really no benefit that i can think of to having that combo.
id send it back if possible only bc 1/2x28 devices are more common, varied, and cheaper.
