50BMG is specifically mentioned as being excluded from civilian use in the National Firearms classifications.
That being said, I would be surprised if you could get a PTA for an alternate .50 cal round. Even to get a .45 ACP pistol requires a high-power qualification for your concealed license.

Don't know about freedom land, but here in Canada you can get a decent single shot .50 for a couple of grand, cheaper on the used market. Mag fed generally start after five grand but still not bad.
