Most of the time I have a flat brim hat on.
Used to wear a baseball cap but Ive realized that a flat brim doesnt block your periphereal as much which is nice.

Helmet if you are going to be anywhere that incidental head injuries are more common than being shot at, or in urban areas where camouflage is not really much of an option, or if there will be incoming artillery, or if your chain of command tells you to.
Boonies camouflage better, block sun the best, and look better which makes them GOAT tier for operating behind enemy lines, on the FOB in sandy areas, or innajungle.
Baseball cap blocks Sun better than helmet and blends in with civillians. It's also decent at camouflage and is used by special forces heavily.
Since I am no operator, never was, and never will be, and I haven't been in any army for most of a decade, options one and two are irrelevant for me and probably everyone ITT too.
I might wear a boonies, again, if I take up sport shooting because it blocks the sun and for that reason won't look gay.
