So I've just been using Hoppe's oil forever since it's what I got with my first cleaning kit and I kind of stuck with it. Lately I've been hearing that grease is actually better as a lube than oil.

What's the best, most practical lube to use? What do you use?

>inb4 canola oil
>>
Motor oil on everything most of the time.

TW-25B on my carry gun, because it attracts less crud.
>>
>>27802763

lithium-moly grease on everything. even the old chassis fans on my pc ran great with it.

No fucko, you're the retard. I drive and service VW TDIs as a side business, know what diesel oil is really fucking good at? Keeping soot in suspension and working under insane temperatures, compression, and combustion. The friction modifiers and additive packages found in modern synthetic Diesel oils are probably the single best lubricant you can purchase for a firearm. They keep crud in suspension/solution, the additives are designed for insanely high compression applications and won't degrade. It's intended for a huge variety of temperatures and lasts a long time under non-use. Also lasts a long time under use. People bitch about rust protection and other non problems because it just hurts their feelings that their 19.99/Oz. lubricant is showed up by a ten dollar quart of Shell Rotella T6.

There is no reason to not use motor oil in a gun short of you existing in a dusty, dirty environment.

I use grease (pic related) on any metal surface that touches other metal surfaces: barrel locking lugs, top and bottom of barrel where it rubs the slide, slide rails, pump handle rails on shotgun, etc. You don't need to use much, and wipe away any excess so it doesn't attract gunk.

Every other metal surface, I use hoppes oil just to keep it protected from rust.

My buddy uses it, and has let me treat a few of my guns with it, and it works just fine, smells nice, isn't super harsh on your skin if you use it a lot. All in all, it's not worth the price considering it hasn't given me better results than the usual hoppes and remoil I've been using for 15 years.

TL;DR, froglube is good shit but doesn't do anything that traditional lubes can't.
>>
>>27802763
Eezox for rust prevention when you store something otherwise clp, motor oil, ballistol are all good
>>

Anyone got any good suggestions as to alternatives I can use?

Tetra/white lithium grease for greasing

Fuck off noguns.
>>
Ballisol on everything, Hoppe's No.9 Benchrest for the bore of my Vepr since surplus 7.62x54r leaves a shitload of copper in the rifling.
>>
>>27802763
Brake cleaner and motor oil. I use patches and then finish up with a boresnake with a drop of motor oil on the end. Also use gun grease (cheap) on slidey bits. A little dab'll do ya.

If I want to really get the crud out of my surplus guns one day, I'll let the (the barrel) soak in brake fluid for a few hours, brush gently with a brass brush, clean as usual, repeat. There is years worth of copper fouling in my Mauser barrel, no matter how many patches go in they always end up coming out blue. It doesn't really affect anything, just bugs me that there is crud in there that I can't get out without a serious effort.

I also keep a bag of desiccant in my gun locker.

Fuck Boretech.

Either of these.

Use outdoors, or at a minimum with excellent ventilation. Consider an Organic Vapor respirator and wear gloves. I'm not kidding.

Don't let either sit in the bore.
>>
I use 3-in-1 on everything.
>>
>>27803341
I swear it's awesome, I have used both boretech copper remover, I think they might have a special name for it idk, and kg12(need to wear gloves with this), they clean with very minimal scrubbing. I was able to get a really dirty t53 spotless in a few hours with the boretech copper remover and their carbon remover is useful too, similar to the copper stuff but will clean any carbon. I have yet to see any cleaner clean the black off an AK piston but the boretech stuff will do it
>>27803364
Tried it, they clean good but boretech is a million times easier to use and cleans just as good , and you don't need to clean outside , and it doesn't matter if it sits in your bore, those are a waste of time

Hi.

The same chemists that would assure you their particular brand of $19.99/Oz lubricant is so much better than motor oil? Despite the literal millions of dollars spent on R&D for modern engine lubricants by big oil?

It's bro science, and like it or not, it's fairly reliable. People who keep outstanding track of every aspect of their weapon, because that's their thing, from cleaning, to ammunition, to every single round fired, how those rounds performed and under what conditions they performed, use those two products almost fucking exclusively because of said performance.

And if you want to start slinging names around that's fine. Eat my ass you Islamic peice of shit.

>this much same fagging
>>
>>27803507
Topkek I use motor oil for lube, you're preaching to the wrong person, KG isn't some backwoods company run by chemist bubbajoe and his sister, they have actually developed products that gun manufacturers are using to finish steel with. Fuck off troll.
>>

>>27803473
>>27803404

All three of you are dumb, assuming it's not just the same faggot samefagging. Ammonia is essentially the only chemical commonly available and cheap enough for this kind of work. Is it bad for steel, sure if you let it sit for hours on end in a concentrated solution. That's why the directions tell you to not let it sit, not the company's fault you can't read. If you want to clean led, copper, and brass fouling out of a bore to the best of your ability, you need to use ammonia to do it, just be carefull with it.

It will get into cracks and crevices you can't get to, and some guns you can't apply degreaser because of the finish. Ammonia isn't the end all for gun cleaning and if you're limiting yourself to one chemical, it is you that is dumb. I'll stick to my shit, it cleans fast and easier than anything I've ever used, which has been about everything in this thread.
