Any good book recommendation boys? I'm look for something non-fic to read. I've already read Sniper One and I'm thinking about picking up Lone Survivor because my roommate swears up and down its great. But I'd like something without a movie made about it.
>>
>>27801386
Also I I'd prefer something post 9/11
>>
hard corps - short novely
marines in the garden of eden - long but worth it
Generation Kill - great book, there is a hbo series about it tho... still worth the read
>>
Any Tom Clancy novels. I like the Jack Ryan universe ones especially
>>
>>27801485
Oh you said non-fic. My bad senpai
>>
Viper Pilot is pretty good if your into fast jets and killing SAMs.

Neat insight on the life of a combat pilot deployed to Fulda in the 80's and killing SAMs in Iraq in the 90's and 00's.
>>
American Sniper is good

Just get yourself and your roommate a coloring book, you'll have hours of fun.

This sounds tight
>>27801491
You're good, I actually planned on picking up a Tom Clancy book or Starship Troopers afterwards
>>27801576
I've also been interested in this to see how different it was then the movie
>>
>>27801599
If it makes you feel better he doesn't like the movie
>>
>>27801610
It doesn't make any difference, they're both poorly written works of fiction.

Wat. I could see a few embelishments happening to the story to make it more entertaining but im pretty sure this happened...

Matterhorn.

I cried. The last 100 pages are absolutely heartwrenching

Aquarium by Viktor is good. Even tho he is was spy who defected from cccp, he wasn't as crazy as the dude in the book but I'm sure the character is based off of people he knows.
>>
>>27801602
Same story beats, completely different perspective. The book is much more down-to-earth and not propagandic. Also, there was no "rival sniper" in real life. They squared off all of once, and the other guy ended up dead. The end.

House to House by David Bellavia
1st Infantry in Fallujah, was recommended for a medal of Honor based off his actions there.

Horse Soldiers; First Green berets into Afghanistan after 9/11.

Black Hawk Down, best of the list, an outstanding recount of the battle.
>>
>>27801743
He joined up when Cav still rode horses, and moved to jeeps when the war started.
>>
The Turner Diaries are pretty good and realistic for how things are turning out these days

Band of Brothers is pretty good. I think theres also one written by one of the people who was there, but i'm not sure.

Several men from Easy Company have written memoirs. Off the top of my head: David Webster, Don Malarkey, Shifty Powers, Bill Garnere, Babe Heffron, Lynn Compton and Dick Winters. I've only read Winters' but it was amazing.
>>
>>27801816
Does the book have anything about his going to Louisiana after Katrina? Was he working with the national guard/police to seize guns from citizens?
>>
>>27802164
You think his editors would allow all of his shitty lies to get to print?

They just kept the ones that made for good optics, the shithead spewed the rest promoting the book thinking it actually made him look good.

This, the history of the selous scouts and the rhodesian bush war told by a guy who lived trough all, the author is probably one of the most lucky and moronic operators alive now.

Also, i'd recommend congo mercenary, wrote by Mike Hoare.

>Generation Kill - great book, there is a hbo series about it tho... still worth the read

I recommend reading the book and skipping the TV series.
>>
>>27801386
Lone Survivor is great if you like bullshit, American Sniper-Tier inflated accounts of shit trying to cater to your average dipshit's misunderstandings and unrealistic expectations of the military due to decades of action movie bullshit.

Book sucks to be honest, family.

>>27801690
Luttrell claims his team was attacked by 80-200 fighters in Lone Survivor.

This is up from his initial reports of 20-40, and WAY up from intelligence analysis estimates of 10-20 or independent estimates of 8-10.

Let me tell you what actually happened:

>4 arrogant rednecks roll into enemy territory basically blind and cocky with almost no way to call for help.
>Get BTFO by locals who have spent their entire lives in that valley and know it like the back of their hand.
>One gets saved by other locals, essentially only because Pashto honor consists asylum sacred, and even then only because his bumbling ass fell down the mountain into a valley less friendly to the Taliban
>Makes a bunch of shit up to capitalize on his life-defining fuckup and convince people he's a cool action hero.

There, just saved you a bunch of time.

Chris Kyle and Marcus Luttrell are /k/ incarnate:
> Sociopaths with no respect for human life
>Making shit up so people they'll never meet well think they're cool.

Also beware /k/ book recommendations in general: 90% of the time it's gonna be something written by some IRL Dale Gribbel with an 8th grade reading level.

>One Second After
Never listening to you morons again...
