They have access to loads of information, though especially US due to cooperation with other countries (chiefly Sweden and Britain on russia and Japan/Australia i suppose on China. Not to mention satellites.

Russia's probably still a major player.

The KGB were masters of humint and that shit just doesn't magically go away.

China's the one who manufactures hardware for computers, and it's been proven that most processors, motherboards, and hard drives have backdoors built into them. (probably at the behest of the NSA) So I'd imagine they know everything that the U.S. knows.

I'm a spy, and I can tell you we know all of what Russia knows, but 50% of what China knows, and China knows 10% of what we know about what Russia knows about China.

It doesnt work that way. Despite what you learned watching swordfish.

All electronics used in even the most basic of information processing is checked a million times over for potential "backdoors" (or in reality, transmitters/black book stoorage/what have you).

However, what the US gathers in the middle east, they decrypt and trade for equivalent data on Russia from, say, Sweden. The western intelligence "chain" means that most participators get the intelligence that they want, and that those with great channels to raw data gets more than the ones incapable of say, decrypting ELINT data. If lithuania goes to great britain looking to trade encrypted ELINT, they get encrypted ELINT back.

I imagine that's what a lot of the Five Eyes runs on

They were about as effective as americans. The "muh KGB best intelligence" comes from the fact that they got to work in free societies whereas being a spy in CCCP was harder. Everyone was paranoid. Fuck you could live rest of your days in siberia just cause your neighbour didn't like you during certain eras.
>>

What else can you tell us about trading data?
For a start, what do you mean by raw data? What would be considered valuable?

>muh paranoid off to the gulag meme

A lot. It's amazing what secrets are being sold for a few thousand bucks or cheap gifts like pornography.

Homeland Security is less of a singular intelligence entity as much as it is a medium for questionably and varyinglyeffective security programs to communicate wih each other and get a bigger portions of the Federal budget every year.
