Not always.

As in, the US gov't put the bump on him?
>>

I think that's an implication.
>>

It was probably someone's job to work out exactly how many people they'd need for the circumference of the ship plus a given amount of space in between them.

LOL no. Here's the original part 2. Whoever stitched it together forgot to include it.

It's like working in an office building and you're not allowed to leave and you're not allowed on the deck unless you work there and you have to sleep surrounded by engines.

>>22728652
I'd join the military for four jobs, in this specific order:
1. Fighter pilot, USAF
2. Attack helicopter pilot, US Army or USMC
3. Tank crew, US Army or USMC
4. Any position working on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier, USN or USMC

According to a close Navy friend of mine, no. He was on the Stennis.

According to him being in port was pretty fun. Got to go to Thailand, Dubai, and I think somewhere else. He had a chance to work on the deck for some peculiar reason (some Navy jargon.) Said that was interesting. Yet according to him it was really grueling and miserable overall.

On a brighter note he said people don't tend to think about suicide all that often because they simply don't have the time.

I think he worked sixteen hour days.

this was filmed around 2005 or so, in one of the later episodes they get to talking about their feelings about the Iraq war, its after no WMDs were found and the mission suddenly changed to "spreading democracy in the middle east" so lots of people are saying I just hope we can look back at this and see that it was a turning point when the middle east started to become free like back home

>been on the bottom of the sea (coast) two times
>entire deck one is shut off since the elevator take 2½ hours to load and 2½ hours to unload
>not profitable when the sea passage takes 4 hours
>basically 4 full size gymnastics halls empty
>empty bottom fucks up the balance, after a truck fell off deck three and in to the ocean during a storm they added in floating support on the sides
>despite reconstructions and refurbishment of everything
>all money invested in to it was paid back soon, and it had been doing profit for at least 30 years of its service time
>company gives it another 5 years of service as well as two LNG tanks and two LNG engines to see if its economical and/or safe to use LNG aboard ships.
>company is part of a corporation that is quite large with lots of daughter companies that are active in almost all economic sectors
>except insurance or banking

Also had an air rifle shooting range in one of the deck one rooms.

go to the military, learn operator skills, become and operator. make connections in contacts with other operators. when you get out, use those contacts to form your militia

Cause they have their own jobs.

You also can't just grab random people to work on the flight deck. Outside of actual combat, working on the flight deck is one of the most dangerous jobs in America. You just cycle a bunch of unexperienced fucks out there.

>>
>>22736614
You should try interviewing some people who have actually served on a flight deck. I haven't worked up there personally, but I knew some who have. I worked with them on a temporary duty on the mess decks and became friends with a few.

First off, flight ops don't happen every day. Second, from what they've told me, you get into a routine and just go about what your supposed to. There's no time to be exhausted.

Flight decks are inherently dangerous. There is so many moving parts, both figuratively and literally, that you can't keep track of them. You may be part of a group moving a plane while dozens of other events are happening at the same time that you know nothing about. You have to trust that the flight deck coordinator (fuck if i remember what that guy is called) knows what he's doing and most importantly, keep your head on a swivel as they say.

That being said, it's more dangerous to take unexperienced, untrained personnel (who are also exhausted mind you, maybe not as much, but still very much are) and putting them on the flight deck.
>>
>>22736829
Where did I say use untrained personnel? I just wonder why they don't have enough trained deck crew for shifts, so it would be an 8-9 hour day instead of 16-18. Everyone is less exhausted, fewer accidents.
>>
>>22736939
I thought when you mentioned a crew of 5,000, you meant take people from the rest of the crew. My bad.

It's a combination of cost, space issues, and manpower shortages for trained personnel. Yes, no matter what the manpower situations overall, shops always seemed to be hurting on people. But cost and space are probably the biggest issues. The military is cheap as shit. If they can get something done (that's actually important) with X amount people, they'll decide to use less anyway.

Btw, they do work in shifts iirc, but it's still very shitty.

Welcome to America.
>>
>>22736614
No, because a flight deck is filled with a metric assload of things that will maul you in so many creative ways. If nothing else, jet blast will blow you over the side. Impacting the water from 60 feet up will fuck your world. That's if you're lucky. If you're unlucky, it cooks you like a moth in a candle before tossing you over the side. Jet intakes will suck the clothes off your back from a dozen feet away. You better hope that does enough damage to shut it down, because you're following by about half a second. You come out the other end as cooked chunks. You get good coverage, though. About an acre, iirc.

Helo rotors will take fist sized chunks out of your skull, about 2 per second. Tail rotors give you the vertical slice and toss treatment. Getting caught in a cat launch just throws you off the bow, although there's enough blunt force trauma for it to be in pieces. Oh yeah, cats are steam powered. That'll cook pieces right off of you.

Hydraulic shit everywhere, just waiting to pinch off bits, from fingers to legs to the top half of your head.

Arrestor cables will take your legs off at the navel.

And this is all when things are working properly.

When something breaks, you have high pressure fluids waiting to speed fillet your thoracic cavity, and high speed junk flying around everywhere, maybe a pressurized fuel fire blowtorching everything around, tons of damaged aircraft rampaging around, maybe loose munitions adding to the festivities and that one guy whose headgear caught fire running around until a prop stops him.

That's why flight decks are dangerous.

While I was on it (01-05), we used all of them most the time. Of course, for the first year or so while I was there, we were in port fixing everything so that might have been why it all wasn't fucked. Underway, if training and maintenance needed it, we could use less, but there was always some important thing that we needed all our speed for or the old man wanted extra redundancy for.

There was a couple times when E would be E and shit all over us, but it was still mostly working- albeit with some sleepless nights.

>i thought the usa had seperation of church and state in its constitution

It doesn't. The Congress isn't allowed to make laws supporting one religion over another, but individuals in the government are still allowed to do their own religious thing thing.

>>
>>22749934
To add, all that the US's separation of Church and State is..is that our Govt can't endorse and enforce any particular religion. But that doesn't mean it can't offer religious services to the people who want them. It also can't stop you from worshipping anything either.

>The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, as one of the ten amendments that constitute the Bill of Rights.

He's not. When send people to fight and kill and die, you need them prepared in every way possible.

The USA military has chaplains for Muslims (Sunni, Shiite, and all the others), Judaism (and all their varieties), all major Christian denominations, Hindus, Buddhists, Wiccans, and probably some that I don't know about.
