Hey /jp/, /r9k/ here. I just started playing Higurashi because I really enjoyed the anime. It's also my first time playing a visual novel so I was wondering is it just reading through text or does the game become more interactive as the story progresses? I understand that most of these kinds of games have different routes you can choose from.
Higurashi doesn't, it's a kintetic novel. There are no choices.

>Why does a novel have words?
Why do you think its called a visual novel?
Protip: does not contain the word "game" in it.

I knew that I'd be mostly reading going in. I just assumed there were some choices you made along the way progressing through a route.

Some "visual novels" have choices/interaction, or even gameplay included. But as another anon said, Higurashi has none.

ひぐらし has barely any choices, except like one or two
There is a puzzle-solving sequence of sorts, but it's only towards the end of the final arc
