Any of use Linux and play VNs? How do you do it? Do you use Wine?
I want to buy my first VN from DLsite, but I'm going to feel stupid if I can't actually play it. Also, not sure if there's a way to change the system locale (or if it even matters), like on Windows, because I want to play it in Japanese.

How old is Moebuntu? Is it updated? I remember using it years ago.

Try Wine and, when it doesn't work, run Windows in Virtualbox.

We do not care about freedom; we care about porn games.
Use Windows.

I don't actually use it. I just wanted to use a picture that looked semi-relevant.

Will do, thanks.
>>15383402
I don't care about freedom either, I just like being able to use terminal and gcc.
>>
Just keep a small partition with Windows, VNs aren't too heavy so it doesn't have to be too big.

Ubuntu uses a year-based version naming system, so the current one is version 16. As OP's pic mentions version 16.04, I would assume it's still being updated.

wine-staging (not wine) runs most VNs you throw at it, although you might need to install directx and quartz through winetricks.

Yes you can change the locale with the LANG environment variable, either per application basis (a la AppLocale) or system wide.

Speak for yourself.
Not everyone wants malware (aka Windows 10) installed in their personal computer, and there are many other reasons someone would want to use Linux other than freedom.

truneets use windows7

Pretty sure WinME is still the 'truneet' OS, unless people stopped using that in the last couple years.

Yuyulinux is better

Wine works fine for everything that I tried. If you are lazy and can't figure some things out, I am sure that Virtualbox will serve you well.

Nice proxy post.
Japs don't even associate Linux with freedom.
Either way I've seen several japs playing eroge on Linux on Twitter.

This is false, there are freetards everywere

No one said anything about windows 10.
>>
>>15383113
Your best bet is to use Wine. Also, you can create diferent WINEPREFIX for each VN, so they are isolated. In case you have one that needs JP and another doesn't

I'll need to see your credentials as a truneet ambassador.

I've recently started using Linux (name Ubuntu Gnome) and the vast majority of VNs so far I simply use WINE for. The only ones I've had to do anything at all for was g-senjou no maou which I couldn't get to work so I just tossed into a VM, and Monmusu quest which I changed a few things with WINE tricks and then run via a command. Really the vast majority of them just werk, the ones that don't might have stuff to make them work and can just be googled via "<VN name> Linux". For all else VMs will fix it.

If you're going to do this, make sure it doesn't have any DRM. SoftDenchi isn't going to work on Wine, no matter what. Also, if it's available, try to see if the demo works first (that's still no 100% guarantee the full version will work though).

Anyway, while many VNs will run just fine under Wine, I still recommend having either a partition or a VM that supports 3D acceleration with Windows installed for the ones that don't.

I used to play eroge on my chromebook through wine, it worked quite well for a lot of games, most notably NekoPara, which was flawless even with the chromebook's modest processing power.

There was some issue with text rendering with this eroge I forget the name of in which you tutor the daughters of two families under the command of your childhood friend.

I never did manage to get steins;gate working, though according to the winedb it is possible.
