Took me about that many tries to capture it for the first time too.
I don't think I'd be able to learn how to dodge thia nonsense without the spell practice, but once you learn it, it's quite easy.

I haven't played TD in like 2 years, so I tried it just now.
Died once to it, then captured it 3 times in a row.
