What sort of chopsticks do you prefer in your everyday life? Round or polygonal?
>>
>>14707000
Square with round tip. Shittiest are the metal round one from Korea.
>>
Doesn't matter as long as it's made of wood or something similar and not metal shit like >>14707016 references
>>
>>14707084
But I gotta wash wooden chopsticks by hand every time!
>>
I use a fork. Much more superior.
>>
Two completely straight ones, no fancy round bullshit. In fact the ones that I use are supposed to be used for stabilizing plants and shit.
>>
>>14707084
This. metal chopsticks sucks. they have no grip.
>>
>>14707111
Negligible inconvenience.
>>
Round is shit. They're harder to use and they roll around. Square is best.

I usually go for plastic but wood is fine too.

>>
You use a fork like every civilized human.
>>
>>14707000
Fork, I even heard it's education to eat sushi with your hands so I have no idea why I should ever use chopsticks.
>>
To be honest, i like the wooden break away ones the best. Next being squared wood. Worst are those super thick Vietnamese ones an crap metal korean sticks.

>>
>>14707016
I once bought some Korean style chopsticks because I thought stainless steel was neat, and hygienic etc. It's just awful. The metal conducts heat, it makes metallic noises when you use them, slippery, the weight feels bad to use, and if they hit your teeth it just feels awful.

I think a medium thickness squircle with round moderately thinned tips work best.
>>
>>14708515
How do you use the fork end after breaking them apart?
>>
>>14709915
stop stealing from restaurants you bastard
>>
The only thing chopsticks are actually good for is noodle soups really. Or if you're poor and want to make small portions of food last longer as you eat them.

>>14707744
If you buy metal ones with notched tips they work pretty well, and I'm a lazy fuck and never use anything that can't be shoved in a dishwasher so it works out.
>>
>>14709915
Family used a bunch of topmost ones for decades. They're so old the red/green/blue colors have all faded away now.
>>
>>14707016

>>
>>14709915
All of these are garbage.
Best make your own, completely straight without rounded bullshit.

Mine are all square w/round tip. The tip has some roughness too it but I have no idea if that actually helps with gripping

I use them with chips

>>
I prefer wood or bamboo of any shape, but I have a bunch that are plastic and square and not tapered as much as some others. They work fine, but it may be because I'm used to them that I can use them effectively.
>>
I managed to eat the egg yolk whole from a Korean bibinbap with those rounded metal ones. One of my proudest moments.

I just use tapered, round wooden ones normally.
>>
Disposable bamboo is best
But wasteful, so I use simple wooden round ones with ridges at the end.
>>
>>14712986
Roughness and grooves really do help.
Perfectly slick chopsticks lose a lot of foods.

Bamboo is a plague and the sooner it's all converted into chopsticks and destroyed, the better.
>>
I like wooden polygonal ones. I've tried using textured plastic ones for noodles once and that didn't work out very well, I haven't tried them for anything else though.
>>
lmao @ all the casuals getting cucked by korean chopsticks

if you have difficulty holding food with flat metal chopsticks, you're a retard
>>
>>14709915
that one's a spoon idiot
>>
Round for sure. A korean place near here uses huge as fuck square sticks. I can't hold them comfortably at all.

I don't understand how they could possibly be better.
>>
>>14729841
CJKV people use spoons too
>>
>>14707016
Both statements are absolutely correct. Metal chopsticks are the worst invention of mankind.

None, because I'm not a fucking weeb and I use spoons and forks.
>>
>>14711515
They literally give them to you when you order to go.
>>
>>14710051
You use them as individual forks?
>>
the veneered wooden ones are the best.

Supposedly they are inferior to pure wooden/bamboo ones because of health concerns over the veneer layer, but if you are asian and eat sticky rice frequently you will know that the latter are just a pain to deal with when washing up.

>>14709930
I don't like those chopsticks myself

but they use the same material as spoons and forks, so heat conducting shouldn't be an issue
>>
>>14707000
Yeah
>>
I just use a fork and spoon. I'm not going to ignore millenia of metallurgy in making eating easier just because the other way is more authentic.

Asian food is designed to be eaten with chopsticks. You can spear bits of meat with your fork if you want but you're being a barbarian.
>>
I still don't know how to use chopsticks and it makes me feel like an idiot. I don't know why but I just can't manage to make them work for me.
>>
>>14736641
Use shit like this >>14708515 when you're eating cheap top ramen at home until you can use real ones. There are plenty of dumb asians, and they can all do it. Or just use a fork and watch as nobody cares.
>>
>>14736641
you better learn soon, you wouldn't want to embarrass yourself in front of your date at an asian restaurant !
>>
>>14736689
>>14736663
I'll keep trying my best.
>>
>>14736693
If it comes down to it, you could watch a youtube video. There are plenty of things I've learned from watching a youtube video that I wouldn't readily tell people I didn't know how to do before that.
>>
>>14736702
That's a good idea, I never really thought about looking on there. Thanks man.
>>

those chopsticks are for cooking you dumb piece of shit
>>
>>14736011
nah i just love stirring shit up.

I do use chopsticks when needed.
>>
>>14736607

Well I'm not Greek so I'm a barbarian by definition.
>>
>>14707016
this desu

normally eat with fuckin disposable wooden chopsticks when I'm at home (we have some nice ones as well but we just reuse the cheap ones) and once I went to a taiwanese friends' house and could not fucking pick up shit with the metal ones.

Makes me look like a damn fool in front of everyone baka

"Do you want a fork?" like I don't know how to use chopsticks
>>
>>14736607
Should try using chopsticks eating pansit palabok.
>>
>>14741950

>>
>>14742281
lol. the way it was eaten traditionally just died out. as far as being mexican, the spanish did invade us.
>>
>>14742326
not only did the spanish invade you, they also deposited a shitton of mesoamericans in your country then left. you aren't half spanish, you're literally half mexican

>The most widespread use of disposable chopsticks is in Japan, where around a total of 24 billion pairs are used each year, which is equivalent to almost 200 pairs per person yearly.
>In China, an estimated 45 billion pairs of disposable chopsticks are produced yearly. This adds up to 1.66 million cubic metres of timber or 25 million fully grown trees every year.
>In April 2006, the People's Republic of China imposed a five percent tax on disposable chopsticks to reduce waste of natural resources by over-consumption. This measure had the most effect in Japan as many of its disposable chopsticks are imported from China, which account for over 90% of the Japanese market.
Deforestation is also a contributor to global warming in addition to the obvious effects on the environment.

I don't think I want any chopsticks in my eyeball life, thank you very much, but if I had to choose I'd go for the round ones because they look like they will hurt less.

Over half of the world's chopsticks are made from bamboo however, which is ridiculously fast growing and one of the best ways to make things fast and environmentally friendly.

I have one pair each of both kinds. I use both,
but always tend to reach for the polygonal type.
I guess I like the feel of them over the round.
