You're acting as though Touhou characters really have more character to them than a few one liners and maybe a paragraph or two in supplemental books that the majority of fans end up disregarding if it doesn't favor their fanfiction shit. Talking about them as a category is still different from talking about any individual, even anemically characterized, single elf character.

the monstergirl fandom is the worst fandom. It was cool back when it was just like someone decided "what if a slime was a hot chick you could stick your dick in" and stuff was even posted on /jp/ in old days, but instead of people sticking their dicks into various places dicks shouldn't normally be stuck, they just treated them like normal girls and make some weird fetish around them.
Eventually it became totally associated with that MGE thing and its dumb ultimate loneliness inspired fetish for girls who want to take you home and fuck you forever for no good reason. While some good games, like Repure Aria, came off it, the fandom quickly turned into the equivalent of furries.
-Calling shit like elves, dwarfs, and catgirls monsters. (like how furries call looney tunes characters furries)
-Absorbing the weird centuar and naga fetish(and renaming the naga, lamia, for some reason that if you try to explain, I'll point out Lamia is a specific monster and it's like calling something Medusas or Draculas.)
-Generally acting like insecure, persecuted fucks. (This might just be a 4chan thing amongst generalfags)
-Wanting to fuck an animal's pussy

In any case, it's the fandom that's the real problem, which in turn is a subset of the problem with general fags in general. Monster girls are fine, although "monstergirls" are an unnecessary intermediary between furries and moe anthropomorphized monsters.
