Some funky business going on with mangagamer's top five chart. I'm sure doddler'll be happy to hear that KnS2 is currently occupying both the #1 and the #2 best sellers slot.

As always, post order numbers if you got them.
>>
>>14327483
How do you even keep track of this? I never see people post numbers here, so do you just leisurely buy shit games from Mangagamer just to see up-to-date numbers?
>>
>>14327505

People actually do post them fairly often https://warosu.org/jp/?task=search&ghost=yes&search_text=order+number

That Aokana progress is very impressive. (Only 1 route and Extra materials left)
Could we possibly have it released before/during the anime in winter?

Oh and I've also logged a handful acquired via the means of seeing people tweet order screenshots at doddler, but that's barely enough to be noteworthy.

No wonder Demonbane was so good. It was edited by Colin Crouse. I wonder why the others didn't want to provide their real names. It could possibly lead to greater reputation in translation/localization field of business in the future.

I mean, everything I've ever read/played from MangaGamer was pirated. I wouldn't mind doing work by properly TLCing and checking their work in return.

The main reason is because having worked on a Japanese porn game does not look as good on your resume as you might think. Colin has no shame and still lives in his mother's house, so it's unsurprising that he wouldn't care since he doesn't have to worry about getting a job.

I wish they'd list the game on their site already. I want to know how much money to put on my prepaid credit card, preferably BEFORE release since it always takes ages to do so. Also, do we have any news on whether or not it will have DRM yet?
>>
So I just finished reading euphoria's demo. It was pretty good, now to wait forever until it's released.
>>
>>14328020
I'd guess the chances are reasonably high that it will. It's a "big" title so even if it delays a cracked version by 24 hours it'll likely increase sales enough to be worth it.
>>
>>14328045
>It's a "big" title
For whom?
>>
>>14328045
Depending on how shitty the DRM is, how busy I am at that time, and how much I want to read Gahkthun, I might just upload it so someone can get rid of the shitty DRM for me. I wouldn't be surprised much if harsh DRM only speeded up the process.
>>
>>14328045

>>14328075
Yes. They use soft-denchi for all titles: http://www.paltio.co.jp/soft-denchi/

You get a prompt to enter the activation key on first launch where it then activates over the internet. After that you don't need an internet connection, only changing the OS needs re-activation.
>>
>>14328096
>>14328075
Soft-denchi installs something on your PC which then keeps running in the background permanently. I consider that malware.

I'm fine with any DRM that actually works and doesn't make any changes to my system. Installing things and running processes in the background (regardless of what they actually do) are two big no-goes for me.
>>
>>14328171
While I agree with you, for what it's worth you can stop the service when you aren't playing and start it again when you are.

We had some discussion on this last thread. Please read >>14325806 and the chain of replies so we can continue where we left off rather than repeating the same thing again.

Mostly it seems /jp/ has proven itself incapable of judging translation quality. TL doesn't seem confident of the quality at all, and is translating with a dangerous mindset, but no real issues have been found yet (likely due to only that simple part having been pasted for comparison so far; maybe I'll make a proper extraction tool later so I can give more lines for comparison).

I have no idea. I do know there are a few people who basically own the entire catalogue, but they're obviously outliers. I'm sure the bundles would skew the numbers substantially enough to make the average not terribly informative anyway.

Kek. I was going to post the same response.

Umineko is being worked on at the moment after all. Even if MG can't assign percentages to it, they should at least mention what's going on with it, so people quit thinking it's in Limbo.

I know Pygmalion won't be worked on until BDH finishes Fata Morgana, but I thought W Happiness was supposed to have been started soon. What's going on with that? Also, is Bokuten still on hold?
>>

But if you look at the top five chart, KnS2 seems to sell a lot. More than Cartagra at least.

It's not cherry trees in this context. It's a city that's always covered in cherry blossoms because it has some giant magical tree.

It's just the same guy shitposting as usual. doesn't the comparison work exactly the same? if the tree covers the whole city so do the blossoms. in fact if you say something like "the city was covered in cherry blossoms" it makes it sound like it's covered in blossoms that have fallen from the trees, or maybe flying through the air.

>Notice that he's ignored every other valid problem brought up
so have i, mostly because i don't know (or care) what the other valid problems are. if you make a bunch of accusations they should all have sticking power. if the case against whoever the fuck this is is really strong you can ditch a shaky point or two and zero in on the really inexcusable stuff.

You'd have to be pretty crazy to translate that as a tree when it's obviously still talking about the clouds of flowers, unless of course, you were 'translating' by looking at the CGs instead of the text.

It's similar to that too. The English is pretty fucking terrible because, besides fucking up tense all the time, he's also just substituting words instead of actually writing English sentences. Like this:

>That is, a Cherry Blossom City.

You're asking a lot for someone to be able to understand there's such a thing as poetic rhetoric in a language they don't understand.

The problem isn't his translation is shit, the problem is his English is shit. In his absolute failure to coherently explain the situation he's posted the absolute basic expression of the situation. He isn't wrong, but he is a horrible writer.

Context is that they were in a snowy city in the middle of the winter when suddenly they noticed cherry blossom petals falling from a cherry blossom branch sticking out from a gap between two buildings. Protag and his imouto check it out and find a city in spring (as in literally, it's a different season there) on the other side, covered by a giant cherry blossom tree.

Softdenchi on KnS 2 was pretty shit.

You can bypass the activation with a single NOP inserted into the exe.

Then, after the game launches, it drops a main.bin in the game folder that's exactly the uncracked .exe of the game. Just make a copy of it and there's your crack.

Well, even with this trivial DRM it still took a week after release for it to go up on torrents and erogedownload. The game files were uploaded by someone after only a few days. So I suppose it worked.
>>
>>14329673
Huh, then I might even be able to just crack Gahkthun myself.

>The game files were uploaded by someone after only a few days.
As in, the game itself? Isn't that completely unrelated to DRM, then?

(Side note: If I do end up cracking Gahkthun, I'm only uploading the crack. Find someone else to do the actual pirating.)

Pretty sure their business model is to use kickstarter as the store. By letting people pay up front for how many dakimakura/hard copies/key chains/etc they know exactly how many to print and don't need to print any for future buyers.

Normal companies would instead need to make extra, or guess how many to make, and will either sell too few or make too many. JAST for example went with too few (with the incentive being that people would pay faster).
>>
>>14329840
>Pretty sure their business model is to use kickstarter as the store.

No. The idea of translating Maruto gives me a headache. His text isn't overly difficult to read, but he likes to use a lot of wordplay and clever phrasing that would be a bitch to try to replicate in English. It's the usual problem of Maruto being a good writer, so in order to do him justice the TL would also have to be a good writer.
>>
>>14329919

They claimed to complete WEE in 6 months.
Not saying they will, as dovac demonstrated his incompetence in managing tl projects many times already, but they are going to last a while on these "just a little bit more and we are there" promises. Software part is steadily getting delivered, so from KS point of view, its all good.

Part of the issue is that to date they're clearly getting more money from their kickstartered projects than they would just releasing finished products. They're not just using it as a store, Kickstarter + Greenlight doubles as their main marketing tools. They could chose not to use either but they'd be worse off for it, so it's not terribly surprising that it ends up being abused.

There's among the Clannad backers too. The people who backed physical-only are upset that the physical copies won't come out until after the game launches on Steam, so even non-backers can play it before them. They either want it delayed to match the physical copies arriving, or they want free Steam keys. The problem is that some backers paid for both physical and digital copies, so just giving free Steam keys to people who didn't pay extra like they did will piss them off. And I doubt Sekai's in any position to just refund the difference and make everybody happy.
>>
>>14331394

>>
>>14331046
I doubt it's a sign of market trouble. The companies that went off on their own did so because they can make more money for themselves by not giving Sekai a cut. G-Senjou isn't selling well, because it's a rerelease of a fan TL that didn't use kickstarter. There was also the issue of how Sekai initially responded to the cropped CG issue and the lack of news regarding an 18+ version. Witch Boy got a decent amount on KS for what it was, but it's very niche and the goal was too high. Narcissu is also niche (utsuge) and it's timing is bad due to the Muv Luv kickstarter just having ended and the holiday season is upon us.

It's terribly cliched, especially if you've seen a lot of 80s and 90s j-melodrama. One of the kdrama hits from a couple years ago (Secret) has the exact same scene as the GSnM ending.

Though I must admit Looseboy's fadeout fakeout was quite well done.

>>
>>14331538
I get the feeling they might've not properly advertised it on purpose to show Akabei Soft 2 how games "don't sell" without kickstarters.
>>
>>14331559
This essentially means that they did not even TLC it, as in they did not hire a normal person, or even use one of their existing members, to read through the novel and play it as a normal person.
Instead, they announce the release date 1 day before its released and rush to release it.

There's no way a TLCer would not notice the !? instead of Maou unless they hired someone with 0 reading comprehension to work for TF2 scrap which is also very possible.

They probably wanted to space this out before Clannad and forced out its release. Nice planning and schedule management, SP.
>>
>>14332209
If it doesnt sell, its because they announced it like 18 hours before it came into the store.

They probably didn't kickstart this to try to prove to its audience that they don't always have to rely on Kickstarter.

Or they believed that G-senjou was good enough or well known enough to sell without kickstarting, unlike their other random crap that REQUIRE kickstarter to make sure they don't lose money.

Or maybe Sekai Project is moving away from the KS and is starting to become a normal business!

Lol jk they didn't kickstart G-Senjou because they didn't do any work on it. Copy Paste fan translation, Replace Maou with !?, go through some very light editing, use Akabeisoft2's new 720p. Done.

Someone should extract the Fan TL script and Sekai Project's script and compare and see how similar it is.
>>
>>14332222
As far as I know it was Akabeisoft2 that didn't let Sekai Project do a kickstarter -- it wasn't their choice. Hence why they might've wanted to botch it on purpose, hoping for Akabeisoft2 to change their minds and let them kickstart their other games later.

>>
>>14332257
It might just be that they're hurting for money at the moment and wanted a quick buck. Witch Boy failed and Narcissu isn't looking too hot at the moment. They really sound that disappointed when I start them into the sex scenes. Come on, Haruka… you need more power… work with me here… On the other hand, hee "Yarimashita, Takamaru-sama!" is also dead on when you win battles and makes me smile in spite of my usual frowny self.
