I'm sorry if this comes off as retarded, but do those Japanese "flood plains" actually exist? I don't think I've ever seen one in real life.

I honestly don't even know if that's the correct term to call them. What I'm looking for is those small river-like bodies of water with human built elevations on either side with stairs, grass etc. They're very prominent in Anime and Manga.
>>
>>14204767
Yea they're rare, a lot of anime all copy the same scene from Arakawa.

One of my friends became really depressed after coming back from Japan. He fell really hard for the country.
He wasn't even a weeb, he just went for the novelty.

Looking at photos from there fills me with some sort of nostalgia from a place I have never been in. I don't think I could handle loving the country and then being forced to leave it. Also citizenship sounds impossibly hard, specially for a neet like me.

I'll have to settle down with lurking /jp/ and using streetview.
>>

Just marry a Jap girl and move in with her, get really rich and buy your way into the country, or become rich enough to where you can go to Japan every month.

I truly believe a lot of Japanese architecture was influenced by the way they write. As in, square and compact. It might be a bit of a stretch, but it seems to at least appear true in some tourist areas.
>>
>>14245940
i think its because of earthquakes (sturdy buildings and fewer skyscrapers) and high population density

if you want to look at how their culture effects architecture look at their love for pastel colors and explain that
>>
>>14245959
well...maybe colors arent architecture but you get the point

their low crime effects city layout and stuff too. aka bathrooms in trainstation and lots of vending machines everywhere (because no blacks to rape everyone or vandalize the machines)

Japan have the cleanest streets I have ever seen, Cleaner than Auckland and Istanbul. I haven't been to Germany to tell but I heard from people who have been to Paris that it is dirty. I'll be traveling alone, and considering my social retardation, I probably won't make any friends while I'm there either. Well, at least I can do whatever the fuck I want without having to ask for someone else's opinion.

I'll be sure to take some pics for you, /jp/.

I think it may be more due to the street layout being designed for people and not cars.
Like in most old european cities which are gorgeous, Japan has the technological edge due to tokyo being burned and quaked like this >>14245959 anon said.

That and the lack of space to build, kinda like in HongKong.

Why do japanese suburbs have these tiny streets with no pavement? We have seen that in countless shows over and over again. Streets so tiny that only one car fits in, and there are also people on bikes and normal pedestrians using the street, little kids run around an play. Isn't that dangerous? And why is it possible to go on the roof of schools and every other large building? Why isn't it possible in the rest of the world? What's up with the tiny amusement parks on top of the shopping mall building? You know exactly what I am talking about, why only in Japan? I tried to find answers in an wiki article about japanese architecture but there is not much insight on the modern, every day buildings.

Why is the school bell always the same lame melody and not an actual bell? Whats the deal with the gas stations? Nobody ever told me to have a nice day after they filled up my tank and emptied my ashtray.

Post pics!
About the streets that only one car fits I think it is because it is a very old street from the time people didn't had cars.

>and there are also people on bikes and normal pedestrians using the street, little kids run around an play. Isn't that dangerous?
Drivers are careful in Japan. In a small street where people drive slowly it should be ok.

>And why is it possible to go on the roof of schools and every other large building? Why isn't it possible in the rest of the world?
Is it? I will try to go to the roof of my dorm tomorrow. I will tell you if I succeed.

>What's up with the tiny amusement parks on top of the shopping mall building? You know exactly what I am talking about, why only in Japan?
I don't know what are you talking about. Are you talking about the arcades on department stores? Because this is what I see here in Japan. We have that too in Brazil but not as much as in Japan.

>Why is the school bell always the same lame melody and not an actual bell?
I guess so you know it is a school bell and not a church or an alarm.

>Whats the deal with the gas stations? Nobody ever told me to have a nice day after they filled up my tank and emptied my ashtray.
You know how in some countries there is a phrase "the customer is king" but they still threat the customer like shit? In Japan there is a phrase "the customer is god" but they still threat the customer like a king.

I wouldn't suggest that. Rhythm game players come off as very insular unless they are there with friends. But even then, they're not especially approachable, especially not to someone with (self-stated) social retardation.

Fighting games generally have 'versus-style' set-ups where you can't actually see the person you're fighting. Maybe if you're watching a certain you can try to talk to them, but depending on the arcade, it can be hard to even tell who your opponent was.

I'm back, there is only one door to go above the top floor and it is locked. The emergency exits have no door to the roof. I guess in animes it is more about people finding a way to get in the roof so they can have their special place to go or else everybody would go and the roof would stop being special.

I assume it is to avoid problems in general. people killing themselves intentionally or accidentally is one of them.

Anyway security is incredible lax in most places. I wouldn't be surprised if in some places people just don't go there because they are not supposed to go there.

Isn't the bell thing because most of their schools follow the same blueprint? In most schools in my country we have the same bells in every school too. I don't know why however a lot of schools tend to be really old and I guess instead of upgrading bells everywhere they just stuck with the ones that were already used in schools and implemented them in the newer schools as well. My first school basically hadn't changed since my parents went there. I think the school turned a 100 years old while I went there and they had photos hanging from way back where it looked nearly identical from the outside.

Paradise.

Sometimes it hurts knowing the road to get there is long; I wish we could just snap our fingers and get what we want on the spot, but unfortunately you have to work hard in order to achieve your goals and life-long dreams. Cause that's how life plays out.

I want to wake up there, now. I want to settle down, have my own little apartment, a good social circle of friends and, hopefully, family. A decent-paying job, and of course, time for my hobbies and other passions. I'm not asking for a big house or a six-figure salary. Nor am I asking for endless luxuries. I just want to feel fulfilled.

Fulfillment doesn't come easy, though. You need proper qualifications, you need to work hard, know the language, and culture, and, of course, have a big enough budget to make the leap.

I apologize for all this melodramatic crap. It's just that seeing these pictures gives me the feels. I want to achieve my dreams, but sometimes there's factors in life that I cannot control. Imagine wanting to move forward with determination, but running into obstacles, and other problems. Constantly getting stopped in your tracks.

Anyone else wants to live there as well? How's the road been? How easy is/was it?
>>

Moving to Japan is not the problem. It's not hard to move there.

This, what you said here, that is the problem. Especially in a foreign country, where people have a completely different culture than you, regardless of your interest in Japanese culture. Even if you find a wife interested in gaijins she will never really be into the same things you are

And those vending machines are actually transformer that's why in such dangerous country a vending machine can stay all night in the middle of nowhere without being vandalized/robbed. Also the stores with absurdly low security measures just somehow manage to avoid losing money despite being in such dangerous country.

Dude, the police hunted a man just because a girl said he attacked her even if it was impossible according to the security cameras. Unreported crimes happens in any countries but even with that, even if every single suicide actually was a murder, Japan still would have low crime rates.

I think that a lot of the people 'pining for the rice fields' here have probably never left there home country, let alone been to Japan.
It's a nice place sure, with some very picturesque rural and urban scenery. But it's just like any other country, you're there for a little bit and the magic starts to wear off. Then it's just like anywhere else.
The grass is always greener...
>>
>>14353827
First time in Japan I stayed for 3 months working 72 hours per week. The magic didn't wear off.
Now I have been here for 3 months again, with much more free time and will stay for a whole year, so far magic didn't wear off. Maybe I'm just compatible to Japan or magic will wear off in 80 years, or maybe it is because I'm not a spoiler first world kid. For a spoiler first world kid going to a slightly better place is nice for a while but they get upset with the fact that things are not made for them and lose the magic while for someone from a shitty country things look much better... Unless you like more tropical fruits and brown sluts than quality products and not being fucked/robbed/murdered/etc.

>maybe it is because I'm not a spoiler first world kid
I think that might have a lot to do with it, yeah (spoiled is a bit much though). Japan is pretty comparable to where I come from (developmentally speaking) so I guess it's not that big of a deal for me.
> Unless you like more tropical fruits and brown sluts
That seems a bit unfair. Just because I don't deeply love Japan doesn't mean I don't like it. A lot.
>>
>>14354072
I'm comparing to third world countries. If there is something that third world countries offer is tropical fruits and brown sluts. There is also the chance of working your ass off in a third world country while the local population slack off so you can get in the elite. Since economical disparity is pretty big on third world countries you can get to some pretty good life even compared to first world but this also means that you and your family will be the target of hordes of criminals. I would rather have a middle class life in Japan and not have to worry about my son being kidnapped than being rich in a third world country.

In the lack of serious crimes police investigate pranksters.

>At around 6:00 a.m. today, a security guard found bicycle seats replaced with broccoli and red paint on the ground in the bicycle parking lot at the campus of Japan's esteemed University of Tokyo. The pranksters were presumably inspired by a similar event depicted in the recent Nichijō anime. The story made television news after a major newspaper reported the same prank at the university last month (pictured).
