The Northeast states are technically Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. At least this is what most history books will tell you. The lines were probably drawn based on the ethnicity of people who settled this area and the more farming and sea based economy.
Pennsylvania is a mid-Atlantic state along with New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, and maybe Virginia I don't remember. You'd be classified as mid-Atlantic likely due to the larger populations of Dutch and Germans that the Northeast did not have and likely due to the more varied and more industrial economy that better defines your region better.
