Says common sense and basic knowledge. It was over hours ago, when Erdogan convinced people to flood the streets. Old-style coups have to be surgical and over in a few hours, politicians apprehended and military law applied. If the people get involved, it's all over, no matter how many tanks you have.

a lot more believable than whatever conspiracy. that's the point. it's not like an old style coup had been tried and failed like this before. This is the first of its kind, and considering a small part of the army actually did this, it's very believable that they weren't properly organised.

then it's laughable that they tried to organise a coup and should be shot for treason. You can't have a treacherous part of the army. An example needs to be set if you want to continue as a country.
>>

If the soldiers aren't ready to shot then they should at their bases. I wish a coup would happen here but we're not men enough in the army.
>>
>>62151822
The turkish army has been, for a long time, kind of a Kemalist guard that watches the course of Turkey and stages coups to bring it back in line when things get too extreme for them, to keep Turkey's interests a priority. This is not extraordinary for Turkey at all. This is however, significant because it's the first time the Islamist man in charge has shrugged off a coup off and will lead his country to uncharted territory.

>should be shot for treason
Which is what will happen.

>An example needs to be set if you want to continue as a country.
Which is what will happen. Erdogan now finds the perfect excuse to purge the army of any dissenters, making him the absolute ruler.

We have already good relations, it cant be improved further. There are also military excercises together. What needs to be done is some common defense strategy, because this shit is getting dangerous now.

you're kidding right? Erdogan will enjoy 90% approval ratings after this coup. He is now officially, a paragon of democracy and the man who cheated fate and resisted a military coup, a historical achievement. Cult of personality is about to begin all over Turkey, it's over.

ah yes well that makes sense I suppose

weird situation overall, as long as effy isn't hurt too bad it doesn't matter, the bulls and greeks would possibly benefit(?) from a new leader though, yah?
>>
>>62153492
No matter what the military coup is, whether secular or not, it is fundamentally undemocratic (doesn't mean that they didn't have good intentions considering the alternative is erdogan, but facts are facts). They were undermining the democratic process by not respecting what the people voted for. Since Erdogan resisted and btfo'd the coup, he is a paragon of democracy because he resisted something undemocratic and defended the will of the people.

>>
>>62153623
Yeah that does make sense

so what happens to Turkey now after this attempted coup, is it basically all over? How did they lose?
>>
>>62153641
literally wat
>>
>>62153565
>the bulls and greeks would possibly benefit(?) from a new leader though, yah?
the best outcome would be civil war imo i support both sides
if you want peace and cooperation secular turks are the only ones that could provide that
erdogan will escalate things further it could be a good thing in the long run if he is dropped by the west for his behaviour(which extremely is unliely because turkey is too strategically important for the US middle east policy especially if you fucks dont elect trump)
>>
>>62153723
sadly I don't think anybody but a democrat is getting in now, with them starting to work together and all and Trump doesn't seem to be getting quite as much attention, we have less than 3 months till the elections
>>
>>62153696
>is it basically all over
pretty much

Read this >>62151998 to understand the situation and the history behind these (common) coups.

This is more unique because Erdogan can basically do anything he wants to the country now. He will install loyalists everywhere, he is a downright totalitarian dictator now. Things look even worse when you realise he is a fanatic muslim. You know things are bad in a country when the Turks protesting against the coup sing "allah bismillah" instead of something about democracy.
>>
>>62153641
he is right though
if you want democracy you have to obey to the majority, even if they are uneducated and stupid (which they usually are)
thats why imo only really developed countries can handle it and not always

not necessarily you could have a definition of what the demos is so that eg. proles and rootles international elites dont have a say in the democratic process
universalist ethics were a mistake imo
>>62153797
i truly believe the times are changing everything works in trumps favour
think about it you have the entire state apparatus, intellectuals and media working against trump and he still has managed to become the republican nominee and is head to head with clinton in the polls

If he elects a democratic vice president whom wholeheartedly 'agrees' with whatever he does, then there's probably a solid 45% he'll make it in, let alone his ability to bribe and make deals, and if the muslims and democrats keep doing stupid shit and going back on their word, respectively that will also turn more votes in his favor I hope

I just want don't want to get to the Marines in a pseudo-peace time
>>
i just read on stratfor that the military coup was by gulenist islamists within the army not by the secular part of the military
>>
Witnesses say two more explosions hit Turkish parliament.
>>
>>62154151
>gulenist
what?
>>
>>62154009
>So what will he try to do now, then?
He did what he had to do, repelled the coup, which is all that matters. The rest will fix itself. He will deliver a good speech and people will follow automatically.

Military is still mostly his, he will just destroy the Kemalist (read: secular) remnants in the army, which is significant because the Turkish military has had Kemalist parts for a long time. He might even use this coup as an excuse to wipe out dissenting democratic parties or opponents that he "suspects" were involved or helped or are traitors, even when they aren't.

What he wants to do with all this absolute power is beyond me. He is obviously neo-Ottoman, but I can't say anything more than that. Time will tell.
