The nationalists are actually the young people.
The old people lived through the economic bubble of the late 20th century which was during peacetime. So they assume peacetime equals money.
There are a lot of old people in Japan, like, a lot, and they are the ones who protest militarization. There are so many old people in Japan (whom love peace) that in a democracy such as Japan they heavily influence the keeping of the Peace Constitution.
The knowledgeable young people know that Japan is a strong nation and it's people a strong people.
They know that Japan could become a military power to be reckoned with if allowed be.
