You may or may not know that Poles used to have very good relations with France, and were extremely devoted to based Napoleon, since he promised them a free country after the war with Ruskies. Napoleon Bonaparte is mentioned in Polish anthem to this day.
Spaniards probably heard about the (in?)famous charge of Somosierra, where Polish cheavux-legers zipped through Spanish defenses and captured the fortifications that were considered uncapturable. It is said that Napoleon said "Lessez faire aux Polonais" (Leave it to Poles) before the charge, although it is not known whether he meant it as a joke or not. Either way, after a reckless, or even suicidal charge the attack resulted in retreat of Spanish troops.
Unfortunately Napoleon didn't win the war and Poles had to weak overall 123 years to regain their freedom as a country. That means there were several generations of Poles that were born and died in a world with no Poland on the map.
Fun fact: one of the very few countries that officially didn't accept Polish partitions was Turkey, whom ass we used to kick just few centuries back. A very based gesture, best rivals.

Despite the fact that a large part of it is in the same linguistic group, Eastern Europe is a very culturally divided place. Uniting it in a single country makes as much sense as uniting Western Europe in a single country. Which, considering the recent EU crisis, is clearly none.
