Wolves were pretty wide spread but humans have a burning hatred for wolves so they end up getting all killed.
We even domesticated and bred wolves(dogs) to kill wolves.
Even Ireland had wolves and we bred the biggest dog to kill them.
We had bears too but they all died off for a different reason.

An English tourist got bitten about 6/7 times when he picked up a bunch of them in the highlands so he could do his Steve Irwin impression. He only survived thanks to getting to hospital quickly and being "morbidly obese". They can kill if you are young or have bad existing health issues, if an adult gets to hospital within a few hours they'll be fine
