What we did was:
we took old photos and post cards of our cities or reclaimed cities and tried to rebuild it the way it was. It worked partly because duering the same time commie blocks were build en masse due to home shortage.
Plus we still do it even now(see rebuilding Elbląg).

No but the woman who is one of the main consultants when it comes to rebuilding Elbląg teaches on UWM and my gf had classes with her few years ago.
She talked about it quite a lot actually. I'm sure it's somewhere in the press.
