>this house would cost like $800,000 in Europe

It's funny how Europeans live in 800 square feet houses and have the nerve to call those shoebox houses 'home'.
>>
>>61940707
Can you live a comfy life in America not going to college?
>>
why the fuck do we care about having a big house, what's the point

why live in a big house in the middle of bumfuck nowhere when you can have your own apartment in the middle of a big city with the world at your fingertips

WHY
>>
>>61940714
Sort of. You would at least need to be a tradesman, like a plumber, electrician, etc.
>>
Would cost about the same here 2bh

In Germany it seems like we are too well off so people *coughwomencoughcough* think they're so creative and speshul, they all need to study videogame design or what the fuck ever. Also there's a prevalence of people falling for the social work meme. I don't have a lot of friends but in the past 2 years alone, literally 10 of my acquaintances / family members became kindergarten teachers, school teachers, social workers or similar. Only the lowest of the low class get an apprenticeship anymore that's not "making the world a better place" or "expressing yourself".
The end result is a society where literally half of the workforce hold meaningless jobs, or have a meaningless degree that won't even get them a job in the first place. Our country is fucked. In some ways I think Germany really needs to have its shit fucked up and the economy destroyed so people are forced to rebuild a society instead of wasting their time studying guitar playing or fashion design as their main thing.

Indeed, and no one with power wants to fix it. The smug older generation are happy that they've bought cheap and the prices have since risen. That is their investment, now screwing over young people.
During the EU referendum campaign it was predicted that house prices would fall as a result of Brexit, and the political establishment basically said: we can't let that happen.

It was the universities that fucked western society over. Liberal Art's colleges should not even exist in my opinion. And you're 100% right. In those colleges women outnumber men 3 to 2. So then they either never get a job or they get useless desk job like a "diversity consultant" or "gender specialist". Does the world really need 50,000 Game designers a year? You're always going to need plumbers. You're always going to need welders. You're always going to need electricians.

Not really. In Finland the property is much more important than the house itself, in fact most Finns prefer to buy property and build on it instead of buying houses that already exists.

This is something Americans will never have. Americans buy their artificial suburban homes with styrox falls, fake grass (no garden) and no trees. And as far as you can see, there are houses identical to your own. Dis, fucking, gusting.

European houses have soul, vintage and authenticity to them. American houses are mass produced shit.

Pic related is the most expensive property being sold in my town for 1 580 000e. It isn't the house that makes the price, though. It's located in a good part of town, in one of the best towns and is a beach property.

I will never understand why stemfaggots think they are entitled to shitting on other forms of academia. Protip faggot, if there is a program for something the chances are that there is also demand for it. Videogames are currently the single biggest entertainment industry in the world and the amount of people playing and spending money on videogames is only growing. So yes, the world does need 50,000 more game designers, because it's one of the rare industries that is actually growing in the west. Meanwhile all manufacturing businness' are moving to india or china or vietnam because guess what? Any monkey who can add 2 plus 2 together can be an electronic engineer and build iphones for cheap. Your work is only as meaningful as there are people who are ready to pay for it.

I for one don't really care for big fucking mansion. I like those one room apartments. You know, those apartments that have everything in one room - (bed, fridge, table, stove, showerbox).

Small spaces make me feel real comfty.

I live 5 km from the nearest large supermarket, 13kms from nearest high school, just over 1 hour drive from Amsterdam and people think I live in the middle of no where. People here are just spoiled, they are whining about long commutes when they only live an hour away from their job. Meanwhile in burgerland and many other places, a 1.5 hour drive to work is pretty normal.

That's not really accurate. It seems you haven't understood that if the average houses built now are 2600, it doesn't mean that the average of all homes (built anytime) will be 2600. Most americans buy smaller homes that were built in earlier years. And a hella lot of Americans live in trailers too, but you don't want to count them in do you.

It's not just the size, but the looks and quality of the houses.
Br houses are all grey pebble-dashed square boxes with holes punched into them for windows.

No creativity, no thought to looks or aesthetics. I think we have some of the laziest builders in Europe, too. Not to mention we have MASS immigration. It's hard to be creative when you have to quickly knock up houses for 300,0000 immigrants a year into a tiny cramped island.
I'm told home ownership is a much bigger deal in Britain than America. ALL British people want to own homes whereas in America they are more happy to rent than us.

I do plan on moving to America largely for the better homes. Not only the looks but you get so much more for your money.
I have no problem with having one of those tiny starter homes we have over here. But they cost at least £100k. I refuse to get into a £100k mortgage for a tiny box. It's not worth it.

Luckily I'm marrying a yank and could easily move to America when we get married.
The plan is to stay over here for a bit, save up a bunch of money then convert it to dollars to easily afford a really nice cheap but big home in Yankland. I work in a bank so I feel I'd more easily get a job in America than if I were just some retail pleb

Oh, I see. Well, in statistics here in Norway we count everything (albeit here people don't live in trailers).

Appartments and houses adds up to average 120m2, or ~1300 square feet. Now, if we did like you do, and count only newly built houses, it would be more like 2500-3000 square feet, but I don't have the statistics on that, because we include everything. All apartments and all houses built anytime, not just now when we are at our richest.

Money is one reason.
In some areas houses must be brick or stone because of hurricanes.
In some areas they must be wood frame because of earthquakes.
In the Midwest it is pretty much whatever you want.
The main reason is money, even though we can builder brick and stucco houses for much cheaper here. I have helped build maybe 4 brick houses and more wood frame than I can count.

Suburbs are a cancer, a blight on cities and one of the most disgusting human designs to come out of the 20th century. They are ecologically unsustainable, unhealthy both physically and mentally and further push the boundaries of cities outward and outward making vast sprawls of concrete.

Likewise, residential highrises of the like you find in Singapore and Hong Kong are soulless hives. Humans should live in medium density townhouses to apartment blocks that don't really exceed 4-6 stories or rural homesteads. The suburban middle ground is utter dogshit.

Why are suburbs cancer? Perhaps because you live amid such large populations, a suburb is an entirely different thing to you than it is for a Norwegian.

Here a suburb will just be just outside the city, and at most you'll spend 5-10 minutes to drive out of the city till you're at "suburb" popuated area, which only means not within the city where only appartments and condos are normally.

To illustrate I'll post a pic. The circle is the town centre, and everything else is just our "suburb", and it's all pretty comfy and nice. You can drive from the city centre to the place from which the picture is taken in 15-20 minutes (obviously I'm talking about the nearest road down from that hill the photographer took the pic from)

Now would you call this suburb too or have I musunderstood the usage of the word suburb?
