I'd say joining the Eurozone (not just the EU) was our worst decision. People didn't even have a vote unlike before joining the EU.

If they had declared it illegal from the get-go, it wouldn't have become such an industry-driving factor by the 1800s and the Civil War would've been averted, which would've prevented the massive level of federalization relative to pre-Civil War times. States would still have a good amount of power today instead of the federal government being the powerhouse that it is now.
