I did a little Wikipedia research. The white trash comparison is indeed more apt. Is being a bogan really a point of pride, or is it more satirical (like dressing as a redneck for parties/ white trash Wednesdays at the bars)?

Bogans are the scapegoat for everything enlightened progressives hold sacred, much like rednecks, they're just nationalistic lower middle class and working class people and that's the best general description for them. For example, if someone does something you don't like you can just smugly tell all of your friends that he's a bogan and the case is closed
