It mostly stems from the fact that on the west coast we have hot dry summers and mild winters. This is really good for certain hops such as citra and cascade which make great IPAs. So we have a lot of IPAs which are quite good but lack the climate for hops that are used in milder beers.

Stouts are gaining some popularity here as well. Stouts are a funky beer that have a lot of potential for brewers to mess around with recipes. Like I went to Stone brewery one of the largest IPA beer companies in the US and about a quarter of everything on the menu was a stout.

I like a lot of different kinds of beers. There are some stouts I enjoy, just not the ones thicker than stew. There are IPAs I like, just not quadruple IPA hopsecutioners. I prefer to drink old style Bavarian lagers because I can drink 10-12 of them without getting sick of the taste. Just because I don't like your particular favorite kind of beer doesn't mean you need to be all buttblasted.
