Someone told me that "-oosama" is for kings, "-ooyu" is for queens and many varieties of that.

That's a very personal question. Everyone studies differently and you must find your own style. Some people learn better by memorizing, some people learn better by actual practice, some do well with both.
The important thing is to keep reading and keep practicing, but also do it slowly.
Don't start learning about て form right after you just learned about the negative because it won't make sense to you.
If you have a problem with turning conjugations, I suggest if you don't already do it to separate u verbs from ru verbs.
ru verbs are verbs that when they are changed to masu form lose the る and change into ます
Examples are:
たべる → 食べます
寝る → 寝ます
起きる → 起きます
U verbs are verbs that when they are changed to masu form, they change the last letters’ sound to い
Examples are:
のむ → 飲みます
やすむ → やすみます
会う → 会います
Then there are the irregular verbs which do not necessarily go by these rules.
くる → きます
する → します
Learn the masu form first and this will help you when learning other conjugations, as these transformations between u and ru verbs very much apply to future conjugations which you will learn.
This is a chart I made for a student who was having trouble remembering conjugations. Only concentrate on the polite side. Don't mind the highlights, they were part of a lesson.

You must understand that learning Japanese as a foreign language and learning linguistics as a native Japanese speaker are not the same.
