Boston is probably the most arrogant and smug city in the country. The upper middle class are hyper educated, pretentious, offended by loud noises and curse words, will give you a dirty look if you make an off color joke, etc.
The lower middle class are arrogant and smug in the exact opposite way. Loud, obnoxious, delusions of grandeur regarding their city's status in the country, brag about how Boston has the best schools in the country when they would never be admitted to the schools themselves. I've also heard many Bostonians brag about the quality of their hospitals. It is a really weird place.
