The reason why Yugoslavia was a "successful" communist country is that it stayed neutral and had both the west and east pump money into it and use it as a trading hub, once the iron curtain fell so did the wages in Yugoslavia.

Economically, it was shit, developed on massive debts and was moderately oppressive. I think that Soviet Czechia and Hungary were more developed than Yugoslavia. The Yugoslav attempt at having a car industry resulted in the world's worst car ever.
