Because if you get caught drinking 18-20 cops take your booze and maybe give you a fine. If you're under 18 they take your booze and call your parents. No one really gives a shit about "underage drinking" when you're over 18 outside some bar owners and liquor store clerks. Just flash them any old ID or something that looks like an ID
