It's cultural differences I believe, Czechia/Bohemia has heavy German influences and many German loan words.Bohemia being part of the Habsburg Crown and the Holy Roman Empire. Where as Slovakia has a heavy Hungarian influence due to it being de jure and de facto part of the Kingdom of Hungary since it's inception, so many Hungarian customs and loan words. Then Subcarpathian Rus was influenced by Russia/Ukraine, speaking Galician as well, but remained Catholic.
