I really really like that building on the left
Philly
jew york
who allowed this?
>>61586977
It's really not that bad
Some of the buildings around it are way worse, it's just that it's so tall and brand new.
New Yorkers hate everything new, then 50 years later they want it landmarked and preserved for all eternity.

It's cool how tokyo has massive canals for the rivers that run through it. we just tend to have giant ditches and the cities don't allow people to build near them.
>>61599984
I guess the flags and lack of buildings should have tipped me off.
Post some squares under construction here

>lack of buildings
:'(
>>61600107
i take that back somewhat as there are some instances in tejas where we have development along the water

Canals are a great way to improve cities. It's good for scenery and for transportation of water and people

Is the skyline contest finished or just paused?
So how many of you actually live in a city?
>>61608364
i thought most people live in cities. i live in one but it's not very dense.

>one clean chunk
>tfw your city is dying
It had a nice boom a while back, got to 160 000 people, but...yeah.
The last few years developments have essentially stopped (save for new medical centers and seniors homes), more shops are boarding up than opening, and some buildings are just outright falling into disrepair. Hell, there's an entire section of downtown that's just run down, with the last shop for a few blocks (sandwich place) having closed up a few weeks ago.
Feels bad man.
>>61579597
which city is this?
>>61612789
Even though my city sucks and everyone complains about it, at least it is not dying. It's just growing slowly.

I'm not sure if that was Shanghai.
>>61614014
It probably isn't, but I've been to a few cities in China.
I love walking around that country, every street and alley is so different and tells a different story.
>>61614081
I guess I should post some pictures I took in Shanghai and Suzhou
This was in the lobby of an office building in downtown Suzhou, a model of the city as of yet.
>>61613960
China's pretty shit desu
Urban buildings are nice sure but then again
It's China

work day, the city is usually dead when everyone is at the office
This is the longest LED TV screen in the world.
At night the LED's come on, and there are chunks of the screen that show different channels from TV, including international sports channels.
There is a mall underneath it and at night to better serve patrons, they put out complimentary sofas, reclining lawn chairs and cots so that people can lay down and look up at the latest sports match, the speakers are on the ground and the sound bounces off the buildings in a way so that only you hear your chunk's channel audio. I remember at 3am I could catch all the hispanic expats staring upwards at the soccer match like turkey.

Tokyo used to be a canal city back in Edo times. It is precisely building near them that resulted in its demise; modernization ramped up the process by building directly on top of the waterway sytems. Most of those major highways run along former canal lines. Some are elevated and others completely filled up the canal space into underground depressions.
>google suzhou
>it's literally right next to shanghai
>like 5 miles away
so it's like the new jersey of new york?
>>61614412
What happened to it? How do they survive nowadays with so many canals?
>>61614147
I never had a problem living in China.
Infact, the most problems I had was in Hong Kong.
>Bring HK coworker with me to a meeting in Shanghai
>everyone is impressed with him, always asking him how it's like to live in HK
>Bring mainland GF and her cousin to HK
>almost all shop owners bar them from entering once they discover they're mainlanders, some restaurants refuse to serve them
I really don't understand this, it was during the Umbrella Protests so maybe this made tensions high. But Jesus HK, you could at least set an example instead of throwing a fit.
They're your own people
>>61614487
HK has had problems with mainlanders for a long time.
>>61614456
Pretty much
Actually tbqh Suzhou is as middle-class western as China has gotten to at this point. Lots of houses, lots of cars, families had 2-3 kids, pets on leashes. Super wide roads also was a nice change of pace from Shanghai.
But it has only two bars that are worthwhile
dropped
>>61614510
I knew that before going there, but I didn't expect them to kick people out of stores.
After my first trip to HK and China I wrote a research report about how HK is going lose it's economic power within 25 years.
Basically, if they keep treating mainlanders in this fashion the way they are currently, they will lose income from the mainland consumerism that's been growing far too rapidly. Additionally, China's Free Trade Zones only serves to move trade away from HK, as it is no longer the primary point of entry (Shanghai is now) into the mainland for 0% tarriffs.
These two factors alone will slow HK's growth to a point where it will no longer have any bargaining chips on the table to negotiate a longer term on it's SEZ lease with Beijing.
If only HK plays it's cards right, it could make enough money to let China loosen it's leash on the city.
But then Singapore has been aggressively soaking up ASEAN trade since their president died in order to keep the status quo.
Basically HK needs a miracle if it wants to stay HK once it's lease is up.
tl;dr Fuck this guy
>>61614147
>>61614626
i never assumed that hk would remain separate after the 50 years was up. i'd be surprised if they even made it to the 50th year.
