There was never such a thing as a "New Scotland Colony". Nova Scotia translates to New Scotland, however, and New Brunswick was formerly a part of Nova Scotia, so referring to the two as New Scotland makes some amount of sense. Prince Edward Island was always separate, though. Interestingly, and relevant to the thread, PEI used to be called St. John's Island, and there was a petition at one point to rename it 'New Ireland' (but Prince Edward Island was decided on instead).
