That's what most people say. Some of our cities look like pure garbage where every other building is an uninteresting grey rectangle.
DC is an exemption. I assume it has to do with the government being too much of an annoyance for older buildings to be town down for more "efficient" and "modern" structures, which leaves us a lot of pretty architecture.

Yeah because the gangland crip/blood crack king meme of the 90's is dead because they all either killed each other or are in prison. After decades of lowering property values it's now cheap as balls to live in these neighborhoods and landlords are more willing to rent to people with a college degree and no criminal background. Younger people(college kids/hipsters) move in first because it's cheap and generally don't give a fuck about living near black people. Then the neighborhood becomes "hip" or "up and coming" which brings in the rich people, techies, more hipsters, and whatknot, This trend stretches out in all directions until you hit a boundary such as an industrial park or a still-violent neighborhood.

It's hard to find something that gets the main three things near each other plus the city itself.
