Friendly international reminder that if your country has a primate city it's not a country. It's a city-state.
>>
But you have Detroit and Chicago.

Not everything is about the USA, Oz.

>Lives in Primate City
>Feels good
>Goes outside
>Too many people
>Goes somewhere else
>Too many people
>Returns to apartmen
>Too many neighbors

Rotterdam has the biggest harbor of Europe and oil refineries and such. Plus lots of agriculture.
The Hague has our government, parliament, king, supreme court, embassies and international organisations.
Amsterdam has tourists and multinationals.

Then you have banks in Utrecht, gas in Groningen, IT in Eindhoven etc.

Your whole country is essentially a city state with some green patches.
>>
friendly reminder that city-statehood is objectively an ideal model of governance that all nations should aspire to
>>
>Jakarta
lol

>Paris has 10 times the population of the next largest French city
what the actual fuck, why is this allowed
>>
>>61540190
Paris intra-muros is only 2,2 millions.

>It's a city-state.

>>
>Tokyo
>Yokohama

Having multiple metropolises is the perfect compromise, honestly. That way one city or area doesn't completely run the show, and only act according to how they feel like. That's why Europe is so comfy in the first place.

Germany: Berlin, Hamburg, Ruhr
Spain: Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia
Italy: Rome, Milan, Turin

Germany also has München and, arguably, Frankfurt. So we have one in the north (Hamburg), one in the East (Berlin), one in the south (München), arguably two in the west (Ruhrpott, Köln), one in the center (Frankfurt).

Preddy good, really.

Tokyo has a population of nine million. It is by far the largest and most influential city in the country, but it's not a primate city. Yokohama, Hiroshima, Osaka, Nagoya, etc. etc. are all important cities that are home to millions of people and large multinational companies.
Japan does not have a primate city in the same way that France and the UK do.

Isn't Ruhr just a lot of very small cities that happen to be very close together? It doesn't seem like something that should be called a metropolis.

5,1 million inhabitants.

We have a few large cities, but the USA as a whole doesn't have a national primate city.

Some states certainly have their own internal primate cities, like Arizona and New York. All of Australia's states have their own primate cities but your country doesn't have a primate city as a whole.

Dense enough that they at some point planned to make it one city, but the people didn't want that. Really, when going from Duisburg to Essen to Bochum you will not notice any transition. Feels like one big (ugly) city.
>>
>>61540190

no way paris is 9.6
>>
>>61549766
maybe they're counting the niggers as people
>>
>tfw two largest cities right next to each other
>1,5 million people crammed into a small area when most of the country is almost empty

Going to Helsinki is an instant panic attack
>>
>>61549766
its 12 Mio with the surroundings, 2 Millions inside the walls, the number are from the 1980s or something
>>
>>61542765
It's not accurate, they counted Paris + suburbs but didn't do the same for Marseille, which totals more than 1.7 million people with its suburbs
>>
>>61549766
Anon please, what's so surprising ? We are as populated as you in case you forgot
It's indeed 12.4 millions with the surrounding, just like London goes from 8.4 millions people to 12 millions with the surroundings
>>
They take Paris metropolitan area population and Marseille inner city population. That's stupid.
Paris is 12 millions inhabitants and the second most largest metropolitan area is Lyon with 2.2 millions inhabitants. Then comes Marseille-Aix en Provence metropolitan area with 1.7 millions inhabitants
>>
>>61540202
>Detroit
>Literally a failed city and had a decrease of 60% of the population from it's highest number
