Why do Europoors give New Worlders shit for having A/C?

Is it jealousy, stupidity, or both?

Pic related: my new A/C, which is pumping my apartment full of fresh, cool air at this very moment.

Australian education rightfully doesn't give a shit about NA geography, we have a country large enough to cover most bases in that respect.

But seriously though, assuming central heating is independent of the air-con in OP's building, fucking why? Can these people seriously not stand weather in the high twenties to low thirties? That's weak.

North America has one of those retarded climates where any humidity in the air basically just sticks around forever and never fucking leaves.

You aren't used to normal temperature variation anymore, that's it. I'm from the far north of Germany (55° N) and 30°C isn't hot as fuck. It's normal summer temperature.

>>61542728
So do we, the French are the ones with the long summer vacation.

A well insulated home with HRV will be around 22°C when it's 30°C outside, which is fairly comfortable. And this was my point, an AC is not necessary in these climates.

What climates? What are you talking about? You probably think Canadians live in igloos. Toronto is at the same latitude as Rome and the average July temperature is 3 degrees higher than Berlin.

>>61543125
A big reason we need the A/C is that our homes have a lot of insulation for the cold winter. This means they hold heat well, which makes summers unbearable.
>>
>>61543242
That's the most reasonable argument I've heard so far, and makes a lot sense than Canadians insisting that 30C is too hot.
>>
>>61543229
>Makes sense considering it's winter in Australia in July.
Compare it to the northern hemisphere. I didn't have an air conditioner when I lived in Alberta, but Toronto has a completely different climat. Humidity levels are vastly different near the Great Lakes as opposed to in the middle of a steppe.
>>
>>61539586
wait a second, are you telling me that other european countries don't have air conditioners?

>>
>>61543296

>>
>>61543272
When I was in Oz there was one cold night, and the house was colder than anything I'd experienced outside a cabin. Apparently nobody uses insulation there so when it was 8C outside it was 8C inside.
>>
>>61543242
That's not how insulation works. A well insulated house is colder in the summer.
>>
>>61543272
Most people in Australia don't live in the desert and most people in Canada don't live in the tundra. Sydney's hottest average is 2 degrees higher than Toronto.

25C in Germany are worse than 40C in Australia, I can tell you that.
>>
>>61543375
that map is 16 years old, today the average temperature has increased.
And everything over 25° makes you sweaty, so it's reasonable to have AC.
>>
>>61543398
I'll agree with that. I live in Aberdeen, and anything over 15 degrees is too warm for me.
>>
>>61543430
Well its to be pissing down and 17 degrees over the week in Aberdeen so the rain will cool you down.
>>
>>61543344
not really. there's still heat being generated in the house from all kinds of shit like appliances, lights and even the people inside. windows also still allow a lot of heat in and with all the insulation it's harder for all that heat to escape. air flow is also minimal so without the air being moved around that heat just sits there
>>

>>
>>61543479
When it's warmer outside, heat can't escape until it's warmer inside than outside. But again, I'm not arguing for no system at all. Just use a system where the warm air from outside gets cooled down by the colder air from inside that is released. If you add a small heat pump to that system and not a huge AC unit, you can easily cool your home at such low temperatures as 30°C.

>>61543751
my house is generally about 5C cooler inside then outside but that can still be pretty fucking hot and there's still a lot of humidity. sure you can just use fans to help move the air around but it still doesn't make it comfortable. you could also use dehumidifiers which are actually pretty effective but an air conditioner also fills that role AND cools the air.
