A little nationalism is fine as long as you're not full autist about it

I definitely love America's culture/land/peoples/national character but it doesn't mean I can't have gripes with parts of them

Its good, it keeps alive the ideals those who came before you believed in and makes you resistant to manipulation from people who would profit from your good nature.

Thats good unless your ideals are crap

Nationalism is more than just people hate, otherwise it would just be people-hate

Nationalism is a created identity, by society or by locale, create a bubble to draw groups of people in

it is more about inclusion than exclusion, the point of nationalism is to further a political agenda in the name of this group, so it is a little more than hate, because hating people is too easy

In fairness to that picture, Ankara sounds a bit like Cairo, just with an extra syllable, and Egypt does contain cities named Alexandria, Asyut, and Aswan, which could get jumbled up in one's memory.

In fact jumbling together Alexandria and Cairo could easily get you thinking of a place being called Ankara being in Egypt.

There's also the fact that Ankara just isn't all that well known on the world stage, at least not as compared to the other big city in Turkey - Istanbul/Constantinople. Or how the entire western world still calls the capital of Thailand "Bangkok" even though it's actually been called Krung Thep for centuries.

I don't know what I'm looking at here other than unnecessarily hard ways to solve easy math problems.

When I learned 5 x 3 in high school, I was told to think of it as having five of something three times, or three of something five times, but I was never required to show my work on basic arithmetic since it's so simple as to be inane to do so.

You have to show your work on something like, I dunno, algebra at minimum. PEMDAS shit. Like if I was asked:

>(6 - 3) x 5

Then I might have been asked to show my work since that requires multiple steps. But not simply 5 x 3.

Born in '87, if that's relevant.
>>
>>61501006
*Ugh, I did NOT learn arithmetic in high school and don't know why I wrote that, other than it being late and I'm tired.

They have changed from ancap/libertarian to nationalist/facist so quickly. Where did those free market lovers go? Funny how /pol/ has changed into something polar opposite in a few years

I have a neutral opinion about it (I just have so many 'anchor' baby friends) but I do think that illegals should be deported immediately and, instead, legal immigrantion should be made easier for qualified people. It's really laughable how it is easier for random wetback is easier to get green card and welfare (in-state tuition for state uni, public education, etc) than some STEM PhD in top unis.

>>
>>61496889
Yup, I agree completely.

Past people's accomplishments aren't to be taken pride about, they are for being amazed and inspired by them, regardless of where and to whom they were born.

I can understand rooting for someone you feel close to (even if its completely in your made up in your mind), but taking pride about past stuff and getting conflictive about it is not only pointless, but harmful. Not only from the "fuck outsiders" stand point, but from the "I don't have to accomplish anything myself" standpoint.

>>
>>61515461
Those factors are rarely contained within one nation though. Most of the important things in the world are done through international cooperation.
>>
Well, if you take its early definition it simply means that a state should be based on the spread of a certain people who have a common language and culture, thus relate to each other more then other peoples, or at least a cluster of very similar people who have through history related with each other better then with their foreign neighboors.

Furthermore, the state is not there for the sake of the state, its ruler or the economy and wealth of the rich, but for the interests, survival and cultivation of the ethnic group/s it is based on in the first place.

It can degenerate into brutish vanity based on the biased view of accomplishments other people did->Orwells notes on nationalism are a good read for that, but fundamentally it can also work quiete well and make a country worth being born in.

It basically tries to make an extended family out of a people and everybody tries to belong to some kind of subculture or opinion-club today and back then-OP too probably- so the basic desire of tribalism can be channeled that way into a greater good.

t. nationalism apologet.

>>61503099
Yeah, not *quite*, but close enough that someone who can only name Alexandria and Cairo as Egyptian cities could easily conflate the two in their head and then assume that "Ankara" is Egyptian when they see it.

>>61505664
No, but it is al-Qāhirah in Arabic, which is pretty close to Cairo phonetically. And al-Qāhirah just sounds even MORE like "Ankara".
>>
>>61515679

you perceive it that way because your country became an empire as such maybe? or because its constantly cooperating with first world countries. you are biased, a third world shithole youldnt possibly dream of creating a space program, nor cooperating to develop a missile program. it would be laughed at, if a country or nation itslef cant manage on its own, its value as a partner is worthless
