An afternoon? Lawn clearing isn't hard. Hell, you could probably do it yourself in a full day if you're dedicated. Put all the debris in a pile, let it dry for a week, then burn it. If you're in city limits, contact your local firestation for a burn permit, which is basically letting them know what's up.
Next, get a metal rake and cut lines into the lawn poor the salt through the creases. Kill everything.
