Unfortunately they are all indoctrinated by US propaganda, thinking their military weakness makes their opinion count less.
As a result they have an inferiority complex, they don't stand up for their values, they deride their own country and try to fit in with their Southern neighbors.
I guess this is somehow an aspect of their benevolent and open culture, but still it's weird to see them try to "blend in" with Americans, poke fun at their own accent, and never have a moment of pride.
It's as if they thought they were an irrelevant B-tier country in a world where Tunisia, Italy, Armenia exist.
Probably being this close to a superpower hindered their ability to enjoy their national identity and maybe develop it in any direction.
