Almost everyone in italy knows about 80s/90s anime, you can literally go in any random street and scream UFO ROBOT and you'll hear people singing the localized theme.

We got massively impacted by japan back in the day and both our media and local TVs were all about that shit.
With that said, youngsters tend to have much shittier taste in anime compared to old people so cute girls will be like "le gamer gurrrrrrl" and only watch super popular or "le deep" anime while the ones with semi-decent taste won't be necessarily fat but god damn ugly for sure.
