Maybe in an alternate universe where the EU isn't shit. I think a federalized Europe is the only way these small old world countries will be able to compete in the future, but the EU has way too many problems to give it more control over member countries.
The EU as it stands seems suicidal, it grew too fast and Germany has too much power, especially now that the UK is leaving.
