Croatian poetry, 15th century:

Gizdava t' jur nika vidih da gre vila
s kom ures i dika slavno t' se združila;
i zviri striljaje po lugu vladala;
tanac u dubravi s vilami svodila;
ali je, svi sumnje; isplila s jezerom,
pridrago kamenje u kom vri s biserom.
u vrime jur zorom lipoga prolitja;
ku Višnji uzvisi vrh tretjih jur zvizda.

You got ć from the Poles in the late middle ages, as is the case with soft consonants in Russian. Slovenian, Bulgarian and Czech/Slovak do not have soft consonants because we did not pick up on this innovation. It's Dalmatian
And a little has changed from works of thr Držić brother to...let's say works of Ivan Bunić Vučić

One of his works (17th century):

Bijeloga čemina za drag dar ljuveni
vil moja jedina darova sad meni.
Rekoh joj: "Diklice, za tebe toj hrani,
a meni cvjetice od prsi ne brani;
ere su pobjelje od cvijetja tve prsi
u kijeh se me želje i život zamrsi.
To li hoć da 'e moje, združit mi dopusti
š njim ruse ke goje rumene tve usti!"

Pic related is a missal, from the 14th century, written in the glagolithic script. Too bad we replaced it, bit at least we used it the longest of all Slavs
>>
>>61377089
>The oft repeated claim by S-C speakers that it is easier to pronounce words with soft consonants such as ćevapčići confuses us Slovenes, who find it to be the exact opposite.
I had a debate on this with a Slovene months ago, it was really funny, and I agree, it is kind of confusing, but amusing at the same time.

>>61376873
Interesting. But if Slovene brother is correct, and we indeed borrowed ć from Polish, it is weird to see that Poles don't use it and instead make a mess of their writing system they have today

Also, I wanted to add why these works might have a "kajkavian" flair to them. Thr administrative seat of power was centered in kajkavian lands. Publishing was also preferred there, and there was an "emulsion" of styles going on from the 15th to 18th century, of regional standards and artists gathering jnder patronage of powerful, usually kajkavian lords. So something like a "kajkavian ikavian" appeared (I know, right). Check "Ozaljski krug" for this phenomena (Croatian baroque literature)

Example/excerpt ("Putni tovaruš"):

This Kajkavian is actually seems less familiar to me, a Carniolan, than that archaic Čakavian text, but it wouldn't be so if I were Styrian. It must have been produced somewhere to the north of your Kajkavian area.

>>61377705
Kost- would lead me to believe that the word has something to do with bones. Our word for bonfire is kres, and has been for a very long time, since kresne pesmi about the mythic hero Kresnik were some of the most apparent pagan survivals in Slovenia before their suppression by Jesuits in the 19th century.
>>
>>61377705

A bonfire would be kres or grmada (although this use is more often used for bonfires that people would die in during the middle ages) and a fire would be either ogenj or ognjišče (this is the more narrows use).

Kajkavian is one of the two Croatian dialexts (Chakavian and Kajkavian). Because of our turbulent history Turks cut the country in half, geographically, paved way for Venetian domination in the south and Austrian in the north
..so people diverged culturally. Thr north adopted the Kajkavian speech, shared by the neighbouring Slovenes, and the southerners kept the usual

The difference?

Kajkavian:
No vse je bile v redu i nije me dirale koj bi vu oke netepel.
kak sam brumbala!
Se razme, na suhem.

Chakavian:
Svim ljupki i medni kî znaju razum tvoj,
Koji nas svih brani u potribe naše
I brez cvarni hrani kako zlate čaše,
Najdoh čteć lipu stvar gdi mudri govore:
Brez izmine ništar dugo stat ne more
Kâ škodu donose kipu i živin'ju

Kolo is seen as originally Slavic in these parts, but in reality it's either very, very old or was introduced in Turkish times - in any case, it's a tradition that is found everywhere between Bela Krajina in Slovenia and Syria. Note how Russian dances also seem to have been adopted from either the Caucasus or Turkic peoples, to my casual knowledge.

It's likely a memory of the times when magic was used to manipulate the weather and cause death - in make-believe at least. In pagan times, there was a widespread belief that no death or disaster was caused by natural factors, but that each instance was manipulated by a malicious human will. This is common to pagans everywhere. Thus, the cloudy weather encountered by the peasants must surely have been caused by a witch.
