This is a democracy where 1 person = 1 vote. For better or for worse, a democratic vote produced a result in favour of leaving the EU. End of story. Secondly, saying that the elderly should not have voted to leave because they will not have to live with the consequences is a flawed argument as it assumes a priori that such consequences will be negative.
